Sadly, his Grandmother died the week before and he was forced to quit college and raise his two younger brothers. Emmie left town before he ever told her how he felt. Now she's back and he intends to make her his.Emmie has had a crush on Jax for as long as she can remember. When she and her two friends decide to spend their summer back home, she plans on letting him know. They run into each other the day she arrives in town, and the spark between them is obviously mutual. Instead of making a move right away, Jax flirts hard and implies that Emmie isn't ready for him yet. Emmie soon learns that Jax is right.I loved Jax. He was put in charge of his brothers at a young age and did what needed to be done to raise them. He has a dominant side and is worried he'll scare Emmie. Emmie is a tease. We were warned in the book description, I just didn't expect her to get on my nerves so badly. She tries to come across as this self assured bad girl, however she safe words the first time she and Max are together. And not for the reason you're thinking. Instead of explaining why, she leads Jax to think he did something wrong. She's not a bad character, I just didn't personally connect with her. Other than Emmie, I really liked the story. It was a short story and kept my attention the entire time. We're introduced to both of Jax's brothers and I can't wait for Slate's story next. He's seriously troubled and used to date one of Emmie's best friends. I'm looking forward to their story.

I admit losing sleep until I finished and so glad that I did. Definitely the “carrot” leading me along was Jax’s restrained control just percolating beneath his skin anytime he is around Emmie, and anticipating when he would lose all that sexy control with her. I was tickled by all the verbal banter between them with all those sexual innuendos flying all over the place. Definitely, I would vote Jax a winner in a dirty talk contest.Poor Emmie never stood a chance with all that delectable sexual charm and playfulness from Jax. She’s left wondering what life could be like with such a hunk as she’d always crushed on Jax since high school but never had the courage to let him know. And Jax felt the same, but events prevented him realizing those feelings for Emmie. Now Emmie’s back in town for the summer after 6 years away, and both have a second chance to find out what’s behind their attraction. But Jax’s past secret might just ruin his chances with Emmie.Ms. Gendron did an excellent job on a well written story. The story flowed seamlessly with no unnecessary duplicate scenes, and the main characters were likeable. With Emmie’s and Jax’s point of view I felt I was right there in the middle of the story. And the lovin’ was hot! It was a pleasure to read and I was thoroughly entertained. I’m looking forward to Slate’s story in the next book.

By TLBC My Review: (ARC provided)4.5 stars! This book is exactly what I needed, not crazy over the top angsty but just enough. It was fun and sexy, yet took a bit of a serious tone too. The story of Jax (H) and Emmie (h) is fast paced and easy to read. The prologue grabbed me and throughout the book I kept going back to it thinking it was one thing, but WOW it wasn't and I was surprised. I loved Jax and Em's back and forth teasing and banter and their little sexual innuendos, they made me laugh. I also really liked Em's friends and I'm hoping/thinking that we will be getting more of them in the future. We also get a glimpse of Jax's other brothers in this book so I can't wait to get more on them.Emmie and her friends decide to go back to her home town for the summer full well knowing she will run into the guy she has crushed on since she was a teenager. She's older now and knows what she wants so her and her friends have a plan to make that happen.Jax has had a thing for Emmie for a long time but the timing was never right for him, when he sees her again back in town he makes it his mission to have her. He wants all of her though not just the "beauty queen" on the outside. He has a past that he is afraid to tell Emmie about, a past that has made him who he is today. Will he be able to tell her the truth? Or will he be too afraid and let her slip away?Emmie was a confident heroine and I loved it! My only con was I wish she would of played a little more hard to get with Jax, instead when he said jump she did. I understand she just wanted him that much but with her confidence I thought she may have gave him a harder time.Jax was the whole freak'n package, at least for me he was. He had that underlying arrogance about him which mad him so sexy and the way he took care of his family...loved him. He was sweet when he wanted to be and should I say salty too. That man could be so demanding!!"You stole my heart, and now, my little thief, you're going to have to accept your punishment."So all in all great book that I highly recommend!posted first on http://triciaciak.blogspot.com/

The story of the birth of the Religious Right is a familiar one. In the 1970s, mainly in response to Roe v. Wade, evangelicals and conservative Catholics put aside their longstanding historical prejudices and theological differences and joined forces to form a potent political movement that swept across the country. In this provocative book, Neil J. Young argues that almost none of this is true. Young offers an alternative history of the Religious Right that upends these widely-believed myths.Theology, not politics, defined the Religious Right. The rise of secularism, pluralism, and cultural relativism, Young argues, transformed the relations of America's religious denominations. The interfaith collaborations among liberal Protestants, Catholics, and Jews were met by a conservative Christian counter-force, which came together in a loosely bound, politically-minded coalition known as the Religious Right. This right-wing religious movement was made up of Mormons, conservative Catholics, and evangelicals, all of whom were united--paradoxically--by their contempt for the ecumenical approach they saw the liberal denominations taking. Led by the likes of Jerry Falwell, they deemed themselves the "pro-family" movement, and entered full-throated into political debates about abortion, school prayer, the Equal Rights Amendment, gay rights, and tax exemptions for religious schools. They would go on to form a critical new base for the Republican Party.Examining the religious history of interfaith dialogue among conservative evangelicals, Catholics, and Mormons, Young argues that the formation of the Religious Right was not some brilliant political strategy hatched on the eve of a history-altering election but rather the latest iteration of a religious debate that had gone on for decades. This path breaking book will reshape our understanding of the most important religious and political movement of the last 30 years.

We Gather Together: The Religious Right and the Problem of Interfaith Politics, by Neil J. Young

Review "Young not only weaves a strong and convincing narrative, but many of the personalities and events come alive. We Gather Together is a very fine read for those seeking to add great depth and many dimensions to their perspective of the religious right and how it shapes today s political stage."--The East Hampton Star

"Young has taken on a complicated topic and this is the treatment it deserves. His work is particularly notable for its inclusion of Mormon history and beliefs...The book will also be a useful resource for anyone seeking to understand the contemporary Religious Right. Its past informs its present and its future, too."--Church & State

"Gripping and informative... I highly recommend the book to those who look at our political bedfellows and wonder how we came to this point in history."--By Common Consent

"[We Gather Together] takes theology seriously...Young's prose is clean and often eloquent."--Juvenile Instructor

"We Gather Together is a path-breaking book that weaves the political biographies of two familiar Religious Right combatants (conservative Catholicism and evangelical Protestantism) with that of an oft-overlooked third (Mormonism) into one compelling tale of growing power. As Neil Young expertly shows, this 'gathering together' was a decades-long process, and never a sure or stable thing. But despite all the theological wrangling and factious name-calling, this coalition of anxious activists emerged as a remarkably united, ecumenical front. Not only is this book a stellar work of history, but it helps explain many of our current political battles."--Darren Dochuk, Associate Professor of History, University of Notre Dame

"This is an important book. Neil Young has dug deep into the familiar narrative of the rise of the Religious Right to show that the collaboration of evangelicals, Catholics, and Mormons was not the smooth and inevitable story of political expediency that many have assumed it was. With subtlety and empathy, Young takes us through the theological and cultural debates that divided each of these communities and compelled many in their ranks to resist political pressure to join forces in the culture wars--and he helps us understand the complex alliance that finally emerged."--Molly Worthen, author of Apostles of Reason: The Crisis of Authority in American Evangelicalism

"While organizers of the Religious Right claimed to lead a natural and united 'moral majority' of conservative believers, Neil J. Young demonstrates that their coalition was much more diverse and delicate than previously understood. Impressively researched and deftly argued, this brilliant book shows how an uneasy alliance of evangelicals, Catholics, and Mormons--an alliance marked by competition as much as cooperation--nevertheless transformed religion and politics in modern America."--Kevin M. Kruse, author of One Nation Under God: How Corporate America Invented Christian America

About the Author Neil J. Young is a historian and independent scholar in New York City. He previously taught at Princeton University. Young holds a B.A. from Duke University and a Ph.D. in U.S. history from Columbia University. His articles have appeared in American Quarterly, the Journal of Policy History, the New York Times, Slate, Huffington Post, and the Christian Science Monitor.

By Helen Moss I have had the distinct privilege of participating in one of Nathalie's courses and excitedly awaited my copy of her first book of poetry. I was not disappointed. Nathalie's poems are written from a place of enlightenment. They are clearly and seemingly effortlessly written yet I found myself stopping several times while reading to reflect on the deeper meaning of her words. Nathalie's writing is pure, intense and honest and evoked in me feelings of both strength and vulnerability. I will treasure this book and know that I will return to be immersed in its pages again and again.Thank you Nathalie. Thunderbolt to War gives a remarkable insight into the structure and operations of a leading USAAF Fighter Squadron in England during the Second World War, together with personal thoughts and feelings of skilled fighter pilot, Clint Sperry. The 353rd Fighter Group was a rarely celebrated 'workhorse' of Eighth Fighter Command, but names of some of its charismatic leaders still resonate today. The 18-victory ace Walter Beckham and aggressive Glenn E. Duncan were among those who led Clint to war. He and his colleagues faced many frustrating and perilous experiences; encountering enemy fighters and flak and also treacherous weather and mechanical problems in the bloody battles over Europe. To survive was a lottery, but those with previous flying hours before entering service had the advantage of experience. Clint's successes and traumas are highlighted to give a true picture of a fighter pilot's war. He flew 106 missions in the P47 Thunderbolt, was awarded 3 DFCs, and credited with destroying or probably destroying five enemy aircraft as well as many targets on the ground by strafing and bombing.

Thunderbolt to War - An American Fighter Pilot in England, by John Anderson, Clint Sperry

About the Author John always tells people that he feels like computers picked him, and not the other way around. While in grade school he walked into a Radio Shack, got his first look of a TRS-80 and fell in love. From that point on, computers and programming was the main focus in his life. All he could afford was the manual, so that's what he bought and started learning about programming. He has stayed with that model of learning about new technologies by getting a good book and learning about a new topic. He's been programming computers for about 20 years now, starting as a Customer Support Rep, getting his first programming job and working his way up. When the Internet got popular, he jumped onto that as the Next Big Thing and his career built on that for over 10 years. A couple years ago when a similar phenomenon was happening in Mobile, he again took to the books and started building his own mobile apps and immersing myself in all things mobile. He has apps in Apple's App Store and the Android Marketplace, some of which were done with Titanium.

I got How To Resist Temptation and Stop Overeating to see if I could learn any new tricks, and I actually found it really helpful. This book goes into the mental aspects of temptation and overeating in general, then discusses strategy for avoiding the behaviors and potential situations that lead to giving in to those temptations. I especially liked the chapter about proactive shopping. I've definitely learned some things that I think will help me in the future!

This book is like a mantra you want to read again and again to motivate yourself to deal with the food obsession. The book provides great tools to the overeating addict like goal settings, emotional eating strategies and small but vital tips like increasing water intake and eating slowly.

With its skyline dominated by the campus of the University of Kansas, the history of Lawrence cannot be divorced from the history of the academy, its influence, and impact. The history of any town, however, is much more than the story of one institution or issue. Lawrence is also a river town, located in an agriculturally rich valley, and Massachusetts Street, its main commercial street, harkens back to its mid-19th century New England origins and influences. Lawrence is also a place of diversity and change, a community where space is contested and disparate opinions make for vital public discourse.
