Burgess One of my all-time favourite books on inner growth and self-knowledge as the means to discovering deep, lasting inner peace. The author expertly weaves together her insights and wisdom, as illustrated with her own life experiences, in a compelling and entertaining way. She challenges the reader to look honestly and deeply at the beliefs we hold to see if they are indeed serving to bring us joy or suffering. New levels of insight are revealed with each reading of this wonderful book. While the author doesn't seem to describe herself as an Advaita Vedanta teacher, her style of inquiry and her invitation to simply look and see for yourself is reminiscent of Nisargattata's I AM That and Ramesh Balsekar's Who Cares.

By Brenda For me, One Heart is just the beginning of a great journey and I believe it's the missing link between Life Coaching and achieving actual success. My notes were helpful in that, as I read, I could visualize where in the heart I was working to understand, and where in the heart I am out of balance. Stacey Siekman has hit the nail on the head with this series. I imagine the results will be different for everyone, but for me… without the additional “nutrition” and the “movement” all I’m doing with the normal Life Coaching wheel is portraying a clear image of what I stand to lose if I can’t figure out how to get myself moving in the right direction. Now that I know I’m very out of balance in the Left Atrium and Left Ventricle - Spiritually… I feel like I can actually find the kind of success and happiness I've been longing for, and it will eventually show up as my Truth. I'm sticking to my logic that my Purpose is to become the best version of myself I can be - so it's my Truth and/or my mission in life that I'm searching for. (still) I'm waiting for Image and Truth to come out and will be jumping on them as soon as they do! This was a great tool in searching for truth!Of course, I’m left really wanting the Image and Truth portions of this journey. (Insert sad and impatient face here.)

The author emphasizes the importance of both physical and spiritual health, and the relationship between the two. Clearly, the heart is the focal point of both, and the trip through the various chambers of both the physical and spiritual hearts is both enlightening and challenging.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Cambridge University Press drops the ball on quality By Steve Cambridge University Press dropped the ball on this volume. I have all the other volumes in this series in hardcover, and for some reason CUP decided to change the materials used in the series midstream. The materials used in this volume are lower in quality. The paper is not as heavy or of the same quality, and the cover material is also cheaper and not as nice (more like plastic than cloth). An easy way to realize this quality difference is to pick up the hardcopy version of the first Parerga volume (which has fewer pages than this second Parerga volume) and compare their weight. The first Parerga volume, which uses higher-quality materials, weighs more than this Parerga volume. CUP, nobody wants to pay this kind of money for cheap, shoddy materials. The use of such materials in this volume is made much worse by the fact that they differ from the materials used in the prior four volumes in the series. Now the books don't match properly. I would have been willing to pay more money to have gotten the same materials CUP used before. And publishers wonder why they are losing money?

Blows away Russell's scribbling, easily! This Parerga is probably the most substantial thing written in philosophy.In this parerga, Arthur Schopenhauer wrote an essay arguing that, well, most people who get a degree in, say, philosophy, are not philosophers. They are like bureaucrats who get a little office room, as a temp worker, and work their way up the ladder of bureaucracy. Now imagine if the common man or woman started worshipping the bureaucrats because they knew no better? The higher up the rung the bureaucrat is, the more heaps of praise and glory is given to this bureaucrat and the bureaucrat becomes the only authority and the common men and women, who know no better, because they are fed documentaries and books, listen to the opinions of the bureaucracy, and so a momentum builds up.Schopenhauer writes that a true philosopher, one who's never earned a piece of paper in the machine of bureaucracy, will be ignored by the masses, who worship bureaucrats and by the bureaucrats, who wear stolen clothes.Schopenhauer argued that because a bureaucrat has a Phd in philosophy, the bureaucrat concludes that Plato was a philosopher, and, therefore, the bureaucrat is now Plato!!! We see this sort of thing all of the time. Schopenhauer wrote this in the 19th Century. It is much worse today.

This was a really good novella that gets us a better look into what Park went through growing up. I always knew she struggled with her past and what she went through, but never realized it was as bad as it was. I was so happy to see how she prevailed in the end. If you have read all the others in the series then you should definitely pick this one up.

The series is great and if you haven't read it yet start with this novella. It is the perfect lead in to the series. Can't wait for the next book.

Although it was hard for me to read this, I can only imagine what reality must be for other children.Park grew up not knowing destiny already was preparing her for her "real" life. I can see how her attitude, her love for friends and family come to play in other books in this series. Good read!

Review Cora feels Asa betrayed her and needs to learn to trust him again. Over the year she had written back and forth to Henry, she developed feelings for him. Cora refuses to make a rash decision and insists both men court her, giving her time to know her true feelings. She has known Asa all her life. He was best friends with her brother. But how do you overcome being left behind because he didn't know her well enough to trust her with his disability?Fortunately for Cora, she has some money and opens her own dress shop, something she has long dreamed about doing. She also has Nellie nearby and their friendship grows and grows. Her first date with Henry turns out to be a fiasco. Henry takes her to a sailor bar and reveals his mother lives with him. Neither of these things endears him to her. The man she wrote to is not the man she met in person. On the other hand, Asa is always there for her declaring his love and begging for forgiveness. He promises he would never leave her again. Cora still has to learn to trust him.She also is unsure of her feelings for Asa and tries to concentrate all her efforts on her new shop. What happens between the four of them is something I will not divulge but it makes for a very exciting read.I loved the first two books in this series, and this one was no exception. I loved the fact that in each book we are brought up to date on the other mail-order brides. O'Steen I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Cora is about a young lady who has lost her family and her fiancé, Asa, in the civil war. Fortunately she has some money and ambitions toward opening her own dress shop. She goes through an agency to become a mail order bride. This story has a slightly different twist. When Cora reaches San Francisco, not only does she meet her contracted bridegroom, Harry, but it seems her fiancé is still alive and has come to try to get back together with her. Cora is torn between Harry with whom she has exchanged letters and begun to care for and Asa whom she was fond of, having known him as a friend for years, but who let her grieve for him instead of coming home to her disabled. Cora decides to be fair and let both men court her. While she is trying to decide she decides to go ahead and open her dress shop with the materials she brought with her. Her initial date with Asa goes well and he explains why he didn't come home right away. Cora understands but is still a little put out that he didn't trust her to stay with him. Unfortunately, her initial date with Harry doesn't go so well. It seems Harry has a problem making good decisions and doesn't understand how to treat a lady. As the story unfolds we see that Harry has been keeping secrets. He drops the first one Cora during their first date. He expects her to live with him and his mother. Cora begins to feel uneasy about Harry. There are some good side interests with the friends Cora made on the ship coming to San Francisco. There is good period detail. Needless to say the path to marriage is neither smooth nor direct. The story is interesting but unfolds slowly. If the reader has patience the book gets more interesting as it moves along. This is probably best read in the context of the series, which I feel would enhance the overall experience.

She decides it’s time to stop grieving after a few years and leave New York City and all she has known to be a mail order bride in San Francisco. Upon arriving to her hotel in San Francisco she is greeted by two men one is her current intended Harry and the other is none other than Asa Woods her supposedly deceased fiancé.Harry Belcher is a man, whom on the outside seem like a wonderful match, but he is hiding a few secrets and he needs to wed Cora ASAP. He will do anything to make her his wife. Even if it means lying, cheating or stealing to get her to marry him.Asa Woods has loved Cora Jones for a long time, and wanted to be engaged to her before he left for the war so she would be there when he came home. During the war, Asa sustained an injury that made him feel less of a man, so he decided that it was better for Cora if she thought he was dead. However, he overcame his fear only to find out that Cora went across the country to become a Mail Order Bride. He has to race against time and has to try to win her back before it’s too late.Whom will Cora pick?Cora is the book 3 in The Brides of San Francisco by Cynthia Woolf if you haven’t read Nellie or Annie I suggest you do.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance By Debi Alexander I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Cora is a young woman in post Civil War New York who lost her fiance and brother in the war. After her parents deaths she decides to find a husband as a "mail order" bride, and is matched with a man in San Francisco who seems to be everything she is looking for. She arrives in San Francisco only to find not only the man she is supposed to marry, but also her "dead" fiance. Both want to marry her, and she decides to allow both to court her. The man (Henry) she came to marry turns out to be not what he claimed, and is, in fact, quite insane. So's his mother (and that's not a snap). Cora's no longer dead fiance, on the other hand, is kind and constant. The story is a quick read (I started and finished it within a day) but is different enough, both in the plot line and the characters, to keep your interest. There is mild sex (nothing graphic) but mostly a lot of romance. I recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance.

By Marta S. 1981 Premessa: adoro il genere, leggo romance storici da sempre e non potevo lasciarmi sfuggire un romanzo ambientato in un periodo storico tanto affascinante e travagliato, quello della Rivoluzione Francese, e con una trama così accattivante. E non ho sbagliato! Bravissima la Risoli sia a delineare e rendere vivo un contesto storico simile anche se vissuto da lontano dai personaggi che non risiedono a Parigi, cuore della Rivoluzione, sia nel caratterizzare i protagonisti che ho davvero apprezzato, soprattutto i personaggi maschili: affascinanti, misteriosi, uomini che sinceramente mi hanno conquistata! Anche la protagonista femminile, Ersilia, con il suo caratterino mi è piaciuta da subito. Insomma, un romanzo che mi ha conquistata dalla prima pagina, scritto davvero molto bene e con una trama particolare e mai banale. Amo il romance storico e questo romanzo non ha nulla da invidiare ad altri scritti da autrici straniere tanto conosciute e osannate. Lo conosiglio assolutamente!

I Romanzi come una volta By Nimue's Lullaby Quando leggo la Risoli (ormai è un marchio D.O.C.) so già che quello che ho fra le mani (o come in questo caso, sull’ eReader) è un ROMANZO così come lo si è sempre concepito, quindi trama robusta e ben condotta (e che trama qui! Secondo me una delle più avvincenti fra le già collaudate e intricate dell’autrice!) e sullo sfondo un’ambientazione che sembra portarci su un set in costume dalle immagini vivide e dinamiche. I personaggi sono ancora una volta forti e a tutto tondo. Mi piacciono le sue donne di carattere ed Ersilia non fa eccezione! Ma qui il mio personaggio preferito resta senza dubbio il pirata! Consigliato a chi ama leggere i romanzi come si scrivevano una volta, ma con quel tocco moderno e disincantato tipico dell’autrice.

E allora lode a Barbara Risoli che conferma la mi prima opinione sui suoi lavori. Non solo sa scrivere belle storie e creare intrecci accattivanti ma è anche curatissima nell'editing. BRAVA!La trama è articolata ed avvincente, ben dipanata dallo stile grintoso dell'autrice che costringe i suoi personaggi, tra l'altro caratterizzati con mano sapiente, a mille imprevisti. Non ci si annoia mai e le pagine scorrono rapide. Impossibile no arrivare alla fine in un solo respiro. CONSIGLIATO A CHI AMA LE BELLE STORIE E SCRITTE BENE.
