Julia Fisher was everything to me. I loved her and would have done anything for her. But the night she walked out of my life, after deciding I wasn't good enough for her, I got out of town as fast as I could. After six years, I'm coming home. Now I am going to make it my mission to rub everything she gave up in her face. No matter how much I still love her, I need to bury it deep inside me because she chose him. Brian Evans broke my heart—shattered every piece of my soul when he left. He decided that I wasn't worth the wait. Now he's back in town. He is a constant reminder of the pain that I endured at his hands. I won’t let him break me again. A lot can happen in six years. People move on, fall in love again, and forget about the pain from the past. Seeing his face, hearing his voice, brings me back to a time when things were simple and love was enough for us. I can't let him know that a part of me still loves him. Now that they are brought face to face again, will they destroy each once more or will they discover that things aren't always what they seem? Are some bonds unbreakable? Are some people worth losing everything you have? This is a full length book that has sneak peeks of Hidden In Lies by Rachael Duncan and Take Me Away by S Moose at the end.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Brian can keep me! By Blamjam Brian loves Julia.Dan loves Julia.Julia loves them both. She loves Dan, after all her is best friend. She also loves Brian; he is her first and only true love. He is her everything until the morning she was leaving on a trip. Brian decided to do the same. He left town and wasn’t looking back trying to drown his memories of the only woman he would ever love that didn’t love him in return. Little did Brian know his ill timed disappearing act would break Julia’s heart and drive her into the arms of Dan, the one guy he cannot stand.Brian is back to claim what is his and he is not resting until Julia is back in his arms. Brian coming back to town throws Julia for a loop that brings her right back as if no time had passed. She cannot seem to stop thinking about him or the way he can still make her feel. She could never bear that pain again, but she is still drawn to him and this has her questioning everything…including her marriage. This story will make you scream at the big ball of miscommunications! Everything from crazy texts, tragic pasts, disturbing futures, hidden secrets, stuck up parents and the assumption of who a person based on their looks and status. Add in a healthy dose of people willing to do anything…and I mean anything for love and you have yourself an entertaining read. I also loved Brian’s clan of military friends and I hope we get to hear more from them in the future (hint, hint). There is no way I can go in to more detail without ruining the story for you, so you will have to just get one-clicking and find out for yourself.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. my kind of read! By lauren okay so I bought this just needing to read about some angst but not really in the mood for my normal dark reads and wow I couldn't put it down. I loved the pace of the storyline the chemistry between the characters and the plot all together. It had the perfect amount of drama for me it wasn't overbearing and I could actually enjoy the issues that we're arising instead of feeling like they were the same played out problems I always read about. I felt like everything fit together really well and I got to the end and was only sad because it was over. I loved the alpha feel without it being full blown Alpha which I find irritating and tiring. well done I am so glad I one clicked this book and will be checking out her other work. Now I got to get back to reading!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Awesome read :) By Natalie Rhodes This is a story about love and loss and the up and downs of relationships. I loved Jules in this book! She was by far an amazing character. I have read from this author in the past and always enjoy her books. I received this book as an ARC and was so glad I did. The cover of this book was amazing - so HOTT!! I loved the characters in this book - they had so many situations that happened to them. And, man there was such a twist to this book that I didn't even see coming!! She just blew me away. You don't want to miss out on this book! You will fall in love with these characters as much as I did :)

Looking back on my life and growing up I was taught that life isn’t always easy. During my journey I have come across some challenges in my life and it was easier to blame it on other or say “oh well that's life”. As I look back at my life I realize that I missed out on so many opportunities by taking the easy path to go through life instead of growing through life. Which I later learned how to grow through life by changing the way I see and think of the challenges that arise in my life even in the midst of all the heartache and struggle in my life it only made me a stronger person.

He shook his head, moving closer to her and putting his hands on her blouse. “We’re being irrational. Just go for it. He ripped the shirt from her body and it fell to the floor. His lips went to her neck, while her hands went to his shirt, removing it from the confinement of his dress pants. She started off tediously undoing button after button, but then knew that she needed to get the show on the road. She busted open his shirt, the way that he had busted open hers. Her hands trailed down his chest, while he continued to kiss her neck. As his tongue slowly weaved its way out of her, she dropped her hands from his head. Now, by order of King Edward I, she is yanked from the healing tranquility of a convent to marry the king’s favored bastard knight. Rhoslyn has no intention of returning to the home where her husband and child died. Neither does she intend to hand over her fortune to the ‘Dragon’—no matter his sweet promises and warm kisses. Talbot St. Claire tires of war. Seventeen years is enough. King Edward will never release him from service, but the king promises Talbot will find some peace in front of his own hearth. Talbot expects to find a horse-faced, hostile woman in the Scottish heiress Edward commands him to marry. Instead, he discovers a fiery Highland beauty worthy of a man’s respect...and love. Talbot determines to do anything to win his new bride’s acceptance. Anything except the one thing she demands: betray his king and embrace his Scottish heritage.

11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Claimed my heart and warmed my soul as Tarah Scott does again with another page turner of a book! Loved it! By Barb Massabrook Tarah Scott is a huge favorite author of mine. As I have heard members of my book group at Hamilton Booktrader say where she did a signing in 2013 they describe Ms. Scott as well written. Believe that description is right on the money! This book is amazing and I highly recommend it as it is one you don't want to miss. I always hate they only offer five as the maximum amount of star as this spectacular book surely deserves more in my opinion!Claimed by Tarah Scott did just that it Claimed my heart and soul it is that spectacular of a read. Lady Rhoslyn whom has had so much tragedy lost her beloved husband and child to illness only a little over a year ago. Now, she is ordered to marry by the English King Edward I, favorite knight, Talbot St. Claire also known as the Dragon, As she had been healing in the safety of the peaceful walls of convent since her family's tragedy, plus the fact this Knight is labeled a bastard for his illegitimate parentage. As this is a forced political marriage not uncommon for this time period in history. Lady Rhoslyn has no intention of handing over her fortune to this handsome knight no matter how pretty his face nor how lovely his embraces feel! None of that matters as she has no trust in this Dragon!Expecting soon to be shackled to a horse faced ugly banshee of a wife from this forced marriage Talbot is happily surprised by this wife's beauty and her fiery personality. Talbot would do anything to win Rhoslyns love, respect and acceptance of this marriage, yet the one thing he cannot abide! That is in which is to betray his King and accept his Scottish ancestry! Yet it is the one thing his wife wants of him.You can feel the immediate mistrust as well as the sizzling chemistry between this couple which made this book so much fun to read. I don't want to to tell you too much as it would spoil the read, but it really is a an exceptional book. I really enjoyed this adventure and ride this couple went on. So many surprises and all the captivating fascinating element you would want in an exception medieval read! Some of the elements in this book includes honor, hate, loss, betrayal, unrequited love, mystery adventure, passion and at long lasting sweet love like no other! It has so many twists and turns and a book I just couldn't put down which will take honors on my keeper shelf.Yes,Tarah Scott is one brilliant writer and I always enjoy her style of writing, which never fails to amaze me so superbly written and one that lives forever in your heart. As Claimed by Tarah Scott is such an appropriate title as it did just that, as it both claimed my heart and soul in this dazzling page turner of a book. Highly recommend this wonderful book as I can't praise it enough. One of those rare books you don't want to end as I look forward to future books by Tarah Scott as always!~B

I've been Claimed..Hook, Line and Sinker :) By Tina Hairston Talbot St. Claire may have had a Scottish mother but he was raised by his English father and a bastard. He hasn't let that stop him become his own man making himself invaluable in the service of his king. Feared for his exploits on the battlefield and trusted by King Edward, St. Claire has been sent to manage escalating tensions in Scotland and degrees he be wed to Lady Rhoslyn Harper. St. Claire does his duty but secretly hopes this marriage will also mean a different way of the life for he's become weary of battle and longs for peace.Widowed and grieving, Lady Rhoslyn Harper has been in seclusion for 14 months at a convent after the deaths of her husband and baby son. Devastated by her loss, she has hidden herself away and is unaware of not only the growing political tension but also the part she will unwittingly play for her grandfather, Sir Hugo Seward, will not be dictated to by a foreign king and set his own plot in motion hoping to thwart King Edward's plans. Lady Rhoslyn sees the folly but goes along with it as her grandfather demands. But things go awry when St. Claire, with the help of a secret champion, kidnaps his "wife" before she can reach the safety of her grandfather's holding.Talbot and Rhoslyn come to terms with what each must do eventually even gaining the support of her people to prevent war but there are others who do not want them to succeed. Ms. Scott combines smoldering passion for a country and its peoples way of life with a love for the ages in this fabulous tale filled with intrigue, deception, laughter and heart. There were a lot of nice twists and turns, a few I REALLY didn't see coming, that kept me glued to the pages until the very end.I received this as an ARC for an honest review and my fingers are crossed for more stories to follow :).

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. 4 Stars By MJ Claimed by Tarah Scott4 StarsAfter suffering the loss of her husband and baby, Lady Rhoslyn locked her self away with the nuns to work through her grief. Over a year later she receives news from her grandfather that she is to marry, and that night she is whisked away to her wedding with no question or objection. On the journey she is kidnapped by the man to who, King Edward of England, has betrothed her, and who by English law she is already married to. I was a little confused at this point, there were lots of names and rules I didn’t understand and I struggled to keep straight what was happening and who everyone was, but I continued the read and as time went by the plot became clearer.Though initially Rhoslyn makes numerous attempts to escape Talbot, she is soon glad of his attention when his brother entices her away and she finds her self in a perilous situation. Once rescued she accepts her fate and resigns herself to the fact she is to become St. Claire’s wife.Set in 13th century Scotland, Claimed is a historical adventure romance and I found it very exciting. I don’t know if factually it is correct (I’m old but not that old!) but it was good enough to convince me that I was in that era. Tara Scott has a good flow to her writing and though there were some typo’s they were few and far between. I think this is an author I will add to my watch list as I would like to read more of her work.Copy supplied for review

A handful of sea stories define the American maritime narrative. Stories of whaling, fishing, exploration, naval adventure, and piracy have always captured our imaginations, and the most colorful of these are the tales of piracy. Called America’s real-life Robinson Crusoe, the true story of Philip Ashton—a nineteen-year-old fisherman captured by pirates, impressed as a crewman, subjected to torture and hardship, who eventually escaped and lived as a castaway and scavenger on a deserted island in the Caribbean—was at one time as well known as the tales of Cooper, Hawthorne, and Defoe. Based on a rare copy of Ashton’s 1725 account, Gregory N. Flemming’s vivid portrait recounts this maritime world during the golden age of piracy. Fishing vessels and merchantmen plied the coastal waters and crisscrossed the Atlantic and Caribbean. It was a hard, dangerous life, made more so by both the depredations and temptations of piracy. Chased by the British Royal Navy, blown out of the water or summarily hung when caught, pirate captains such as Edward Low kidnapped, cajoled, beat, and bribed men like Ashton into the rich—but also vile, brutal, and often short—life of the pirate. In the tradition of Nathaniel Philbrick, At the Point of a Cutlass expands on a lost classic narrative of America and the sea, and brings to life a forgotten world of ships and men on both sides of maritime law.

At the Point of a Cutlass: The Pirate Capture, Bold Escape, and Lonely Exile of Philip Ashton, by Gregory N. Flemming

Review “Flemming relates the story of the capture by pirates of Philip Ashton in 1722, and in the process he reveals a fascinating history of pirates during the first decades of the 18th century, “the golden age of piracy.” . . . From battles with warships to the way the pirates split their plunder, Flemming’s focus on individual actors adds a welcome depth to the history of piracy with this engaging and harrowing account of ‘America’s real-life Robinson Crusoe.’”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)“Ashton’s account of his travails, published in 1725, became a hit in Colonial New England. Now forgotten, his story is brought back to life by Gregory N. Flemming in his fine new book, At the Point of a Cutlass. Beautifully printed and bound—though it could use more maps—the book delivers blood-thirsty pirates and plenty of action and excitement on the high seas. Forgoing an ‘avast ye swabbies!’ approach, Flemming’s sober style and scholarly approach ballast his account and keep his story on a steady course.”—Boston Globe“Paints an indelible picture of pirate life, day by day... compelling, dramatic reading.”—Dallas Morning News“[A] real-life historical thriller.” —The Week, The Best of U.S. and International Media

Review “Gregory Flemming’s account of Philip Ashton’s fascinating odyssey is superb. A deeply religious cod fisherman, Ashton survived capture by depraved pirates and months alone on an uninhabited Caribbean island. Eventually rescued, he returned to Marblehead, Massachusetts, to tell his incomparable tale, which gained the attention and admiration of Cotton Mather, his disciple John Barnard, and Daniel Defoe.” (George C. Daughan, author of 1812: The Navy’s War and The Shining Sea: David Porter and the Epic Voyage of the U.S.S. Essex During the War of 1812)“A dark and fascinating tale. At the Point of a Cutlass takes us into corners of the pirate life we haven’t been before. …one of the most harrowing survival stories of the colonial era.” (Stephan Talty, author of Empire of Blue Water, The Illustrious Dead, and Escape from the Land of Snows)“Pirates have begun to attract serious and talented scholars and writers in recent years; Gregory N. Flemming exemplifies the trend in At the Point of a Cutlass.  Here is the powerful story of Philip Ashton's life-and-death encounter with the notorious sea-robber Ned Low and his swaggering band of pirates. Flemming's dramatic history of real pirates is vastly better than the Hollywood version!” (Marcus Rediker, author of Villains of All Nations: Atlantic Pirates in the Golden Age)“More than just a meticulously researched account of an epic survival story, and more than a surprisingly intimate look inside the lives of the victims of 18th century pirates and the politics of piracy, At the Point of a Cutlass is a thrilling voyage with plenty of ‘Arghh Matey!!’ and grog to go around.” (Paul Schneider, author of Old Man River: The Mississippi River in North American History)

By Tex Reader 3.5 of 5 stars –I‘m a history fan, particularly the colonial and revolutionary period, as well as, since childhood, a fan of pirates; but I had not heard of this interesting story before. Just the story of Philip Ashton might be interesting, but Flemming takes it to the next level by putting it into context by with a broader history of pirating mainly during its heyday in the early 1700s. As such, it also is a story about pirates, primarily focusing on the hated captains Low and Spriggs and their crews. My early fascination was from romanticized stories of pirates, and I’d since grown to know it was otherwise. But this book soberly portrays that dirty cruel life, and I enjoyed learning more about it. I was aware of captives and forced service, but not the extent among pirates. I appreciated learning that Ashton was by far not the only one marooned and had to find his way back, his story was just one of the more improbable and definitely more publicized, as the book points out. And I had never heard of the thriving business of logwood (second only to tobacco).Flemming has done a wonderful job with the research that fills in the gaps of Ashton’s story, and he informs us in an easy to read manner. Even so, there are times when the timeline and story bounces around making things just a little unclear. Maybe it was to help with those transitions, but there seemed to be a lot of repeating – of the same actions to show that pirates do indeed plunder and torture, as well as of other elements and using more words and details than needed for the story.Overall, I liked and learned from the interwoven historical stories of Ashton and pirates that took me back in time to an earlier Americas.(I'm excited to have won this as a Goodreads First Read – so thanks!)

Anecdotes More Than One Yarn By Rick Mitchell This is a good accumulation of anecdotes about pirates during the "golden era" of pirating, in the early 1720's. Mr. Flemming uses the somewhat sparse tale of Philip Ashton to as a theme to tell the stories. He was a New England sailor who was forced to work a pirate ship by the mad pirate Low and who then marooned himself on a small island in the Caribbean. The stories are interesting and the book informative, just don't expect - as the subtitle might lead you to believe - that this is a real Robinson Crusoe tale. This is an account of pirates and their capture.I found one omission that bothered me throughout the book. Mr. Flemming describes how the pirates worked, shared their profits and gained there loot and booty. He never once described or accounted for how they disposed of the booty to make their profits. I kept wondering: "Who was the fence?"I doubt most will be bothered by that omission and will enjoy the very interesting and informative accounts of Low, Spriggs and others who were more vicious yet lesser known than Blackbeard and others.

The title suggests that it is focused on pirates, but it is more than that. It actually has three or four themes. The first is a riveting account of how a fisherman was kidnapped, forced to work for pirates, escaped, and then lived on a Caribbean island, absolutely alone, for two years. The book also describes the general lawlessness on the high seas in the 1720s and 1730s. These pirates were extremely nasty and violent people. Some of the accounts of how they treated their captives are quite shocking. There is a good description of the brutally efficient way in which New England justice system treated pirates. Finally, piracy was woven into the religious politics of the day. The waning Puritan movement, led by Cotton Mather, made use of piracy (public executions in particular) in order to reinforce their view of a strict social order. I felt that this was the most interesting part of the book. All in all, this is a great read whether you are a history buff or not.
