In the spring of 1685, Lord Hugo Everly, ardent supporter of the Protestant upstart the Duke of Monmouth, vanishes without a trace just before the Monmouth Rebellion, leaving future generations forever baffled as to what might have become of him. In 2013, while visiting Everly Manor as part of her job as a location scout for a film production company, Neve Ashley stumbles onto a secret passage that leads her into the seventeenth century and straight into the path of the ill-fated lord. Neve is able to return safely to her own time, but she can’t forget the man she met or the fate that’s about to befall him. Against her better judgment, Neve decides to go back and warn Hugo of impending danger, not realizing that she’s walking into danger herself, for history is never straightforward, and people’s motives not always what they appear to be. Taken hostage by the very man she was trying to save, Neve is trapped in the seventeenth century, her fate now intertwined with that of her captor, and the future something that neither one of them could have envisioned.

This story is about Neve, a film production scout looking for a place to shoot their next film. She ends up at Everly Manor and meets up with the very handsome and charming Lord of the Manor, Max. Max sets his sights on Neve but there is something she doesn't trust about Max. During her inspection of the property she stumbles upon a passage that sends her back to the 1600's to meet with the former Lord of Everly Manor, Hugo. Hugo is a person who was killed in his life due to his political pursuits and Neve sets out to warn him without causing too much attention on herself. She tries to warn him and then goes through the passage back to her own time but something about Hugo is making her want to go back and make sure she helps him survive. Hugo starts to believe Neve and decides that he will take Neve on a trip to further his political aspirations because he doesn't want her to take off again and will be introduced as his mistress. For me, this is always the best part of a romance when the hero and heroine are getting to know each other and developing friendship, trust and start falling in love. When reading Time Travel Romance books, you have to take a leap with the author that yes, we all know that time travel isn't a real thing. What makes a good story is when it appears that it is well researched to the point a reader can believe in the time period and if the chemistry between the characters is believable. Fortunately, theauthor did a good job on both. The descriptive writing about England in the 1600's lead me into the time period nicely. Neve and Hugo spend much time together so we get to know them through their conversations. Hugo was described in history as not such a kind man and we saw him through Neve's eyes that he was a incredibly smart, kind, generous and overall sexy guy. Their relationship developed slowly with tension building throughout. There was really just one love scene and was not overdone or overt. There are secondary characters such as Hugo's sister and she was also an interesting addition to the story. Max and Hugo are distant relatives and this side story also held my interest. Why not a 5 star? At times I felt like I was watching a Sex in the City episode because Neve would ask questions of herself often that was much like Carrie Bradshaw. Lastly, my favorite time travel romances are quite formulaic. Sassy modern woman goes back in time and meets up with sexy man from the past and they fall in love in the past. This book had that but there was some time traveling back in forth that took away from my enjoyment. There will be a book 2 but this one can be a standalone.

What a fantastic story! I love the historical fiction genre, and the time travel component brings an extra level of excitement and depth to this book. I have read all of Irina's books, and have enjoyed each and every one of them, but I felt like The Passage showcased the author's abilities in a new way. I found the historical element of the book to be quite accurate and the portrayal of life in the 17th century was so realistic. The pacing was perfect as I was expertly drawn into the turmoil and plot twists experiencing the struggle, fear, and intrigue right alongside the characters. Many times I held my breath anticipating what would happen next as the unpredictability of the story kept me totally engrossed. Although I've read many time travel books, I found The Passage to be fresh and the writing to be well developed and rich. I think this book is a treat for lovers of historical fiction or anyone looking for a captivating tale that will stay with you long after you've finished the last page. Looking forward to more gems from Irina Shapiro.

First part of the book was a lot of history which made the first part hard to read through. Reading the history of England made the story flat and boring. However, halfway through the book it starts to pick up with twist and turns which made it more interesting. Then the book became weighed down again with a lot history, in which I found myself skimming through the pages to get back to the characters of the story. It ended with a good twist and it makes you want to read the second book. I only hope it's not focus so much on a history lesson, but on the characters this time.

*****Though this book is a standalone novel, it is highly recommended that it NOT be read without reading the other books in The Captive Series first as it does contain some spoilers. This book is set in the past but it is not meant to be a historical novel.***** In The Captive Series the vampire king that decimated the human and vampire races was introduced, but now it’s time to meet the man that existed before he became a tyrannical king. At twenty-five, Atticus is the last surviving member of the most powerful line of vampires, and is known as a prince amongst his kind. The life of luxury and privilege he’s always known is about to change in ways that he never could have seen coming though. Ways that will forever alter the course of his life, the lives of all those around him, and the history of the world. With his life shattered and an all-consuming thirst for revenge the only thing keeping him going, he is left with only one realization… Sometimes what rises from the ashes of a broken man, is a monster. By Jasmine I went into this book hating the main character because in the Captive Series Atticus was made for us to hate him with every fiber of our beings, I will tell you that I fought with my feelings for him.and I was not going to change my mind about him. However, Erica Stevens managed the impossible because within the first chapter she had me in love with him, His story is a sad one and I cried like a baby through out the whole book and I have a better understanding of why he became the evil cruel person that we we knew in the other books.Broken has taught me that even the kindest and most loving person can hit a breaking point. Things led up to Atticus's demise and a tragedy is what started it all. We never know how a person can truly crack and or break, I know that reading this book I felt my heart shatter and it has been almost 2 weeks since I read it and I still can't pick up another book without feeling sad.If you haven't read the Captive Series I would suggest you read Captured which is free.

By Bossert Let me start out by saying I read a lot,so when I say this was the best book that I have ever read, you can take that to the bank!Erica made me cry like a baby,It's been an hour since I read it and I'm still crying. It was heartbreaking but explained everything!I just wanted to hug Atticus and tell him that it would be alright..I do believe that we all must have had some insanity inside and it just takes 1 devastating loss to let it consume us..I loved that Braith and Aria are in this book and that was when I cried the most..You have to read the Captive series to truly feel the emotions this book pulls from you..I want to give it a 10 star rating!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Wonderful Surprise By llg115 Let me start by saying that I was very conflicted prior to reading this book. Throughout the Captive Series, the reader learns all about Atticus and I know I for one, came to despise him. A more evil man would be hard to find, honestly. I didn't want Erica to write about Atticus' back story. But I also had to read anything in the series because I loved it.So, to my review. The book was really, really good! I loved seeing Atticus as a young man and witness his developing love for Genny. Genny was a wonderful woman, very self-sacrificing and willing to give so much to those she loved. She would have been so good for Atticus had she lived. Her death and the deep mourning that afflicted Atticus was heart-breaking. I cried a lot. I had to take breaks in fact, before my face got all splotchy and I was openly crying because I wasn't alone while reading those scenes.I think that Erica did a wonderful job of not painting Atticus in too virtuous a light to begin with. For him to have chosen the horrible path that he did, he would have needed some darkness within him to begin with, I think. We saw minor glimpses of that from time to time during his courtship of Genny. Atticus was a hard man but did have much good in him before the one he loved above all others was taken from him. Following her death, he became a sick, twisted man bent solely on revenge. He cared nothing for others including his own children.Having read the whole series, I can't help but despise Atticus but now I do understand him more and I truly feel for him. To have a great love taken from him was devastating and beyond what he could have endured. But he did have choices all along the way and it is important not to forget that. All this to say, Erica did an amazing job creating a world in which you could actually like Atticus! Because you really do need to read the other books in the series first, even though this one is first chronologically, being able to sympathize with Atticus is a major feat after witnessing him in all of his evil glory. Well done!

When Mal offers to let Sabrina spend what would have been her honeymoon in his beach house, he isn’t thinking of seduction. But the chemistry between them is combustible—and impossible to deny. It’s only for a few days and they’re positive they can handle it. So when reality returns and they have to walk away, why does it feel wrong to let each other go? 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Emotional, Cute, and Sexy! A Pleasant Read By julie whiteley Game for Love: Out of Bounds ( A Kindle Worlds Novella) is a 2015 publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Malcolm ( Mal) is a star pro football player, but all the money, women, fame and glory doesn't make him immune to life's harsh realities. When his twin brother is killed in a roadside bomb while serving in the military, Mal is bereft. After attending his brother's funeral he thinks he is seeing a mirage when a girl wearing a white wedding dress is loping down the road dragging her suitcase. It's Sabrina's wedding day ….or was. When she discovers her fiance already has a wife, she grabs her suitcase and runs away.Thankfully, Mal happened along at just the right time and insist Sabrina accept a ride and stay with him until she can get a room, a cell phone, and a way back to her normal life. Little did either of them know their pain and grief would bond them and open the way for a chance at real happiness for them.Sports and romance is super popular right now and while I am not a sports fan – seriously, I don't watch or participate in any sports- I do enjoy reading these sports based romance novels. So, I was sort like Sabrina who didn't know the first thing about football. For a time I was worried that Mal was too immersed in his grief to really see Sabrina as anything but a way to escape his pain. Sabrina was there when he needed someone the most and she kept him from becoming morose, but I could see Sabrina being set up for a fall, no matter how many times she told herself she knew it couldn't last. But, without saying too much, I was pleasantly surprised. I loved Sabrina's gift of song and thought it would be nice to give this story a play list. Writing a song based on her real life experience was funny and it I'm sure it was cathartic. This is a pleasant read that packed on a few heart tugging moments, but was still a cute story topped off with some pretty sexy scenes. This one is 4 stars

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Touchdown!!! By Cindy H Once again Lynn Raye Harris delivers a wonderful book proving that love can come from heart-break in the least expected places. With a storm bearing down Malcolm Hughes can't believe his eyes when on the road he sees a woman in a wedding gown walking down the road. The bride is Sabrina Miller who thought she was getting married but that plan was aborted when she found out her fiance' was already married. Fleeing, Sabrina just wanted to get away and Malcolm comes to her rescue and offers her a ride and a place to stay. Both are two hurting souls, Sabrina from her fiance' betrayal and Malcolm from his twin brother's death. From the first meeting there is chemistry between these two real and likeable characters. Check it out I am sure you will not be disappointed I wasn't! This book is hot! Oh did I mention Malcolm is a football player and I liked the references to real players that are currently in the NFL, particularly Aaron Rodgers one of my favorites. And while your at it check out Lynn Raye Harris's other books particularly the H.O.T. series, great books too! Lynn is one talented author.

From the Author Emily Rodgers, my heroine from THE CINDERELLA PRINCESS, makes a brief appearance in my novella THE HONEYMOON PRIZE, which features her friends Addie and Nick. From the minute Emily appeared in chapter one, I knew the workaholicad-exec needed a romance of her own. It would take a special guy to winher cautious heart. I decided to go all out and make that guy a realprince! Prince Luc is not exactly Prince Charming. At least notwhen Emily first meets him. But I fell in love with him, and I hope youfind him as appealing as I did.I love reading and writingroyalty-themed romances! I wanted to get more people involved in the fun so asked for fictional country names on my Facebook page. You'll findthe names of those who gave suggestions on the dedication page of thisbook and their countries in the story! I hope you enjoy Emily and Luc's story!

From the Inside Flap Thanks to a philandering father, ad exec Emily Rodgers knows happily ever after doesn't exist. Relying on a man only leads to heartache. She takes care of herself, and work defines her life. But Emily soon finds herself in the hands of a real-life prince who defines the words charming and sexy. Not to mention reckless. If Prince Lucas doesn't find a royal bride, Emily's dream of being named a partner at the advertising firm will die. Luc's fun-loving ways have made him a magnet for scandal. His father gives Luc an ultimatum--find a wife on a reality TV show or be disowned. Rules require him to marry nobility, but after he meets the uptight American sent to find him find a princess bride, his search for Cinderella might be over. Too bad Emily wants nothing to do with him. Perhaps he can show her that fairytale endings can happen in real life...

The Cinderella Princess made a believer out of me. I was all ready to not like Prince Lucas Alexander Leopold Casimir von Rexburg since royalty and billionaires who feel entitled (yes, I know that they are popular right now) are not my favorite type of male main characters. However, in Melissa McClone’s capable hands, he truly did become princely. If he had owned a cowboy hat he would have been perfect! Nick is pretty perfect, too. Dylan is definitely a real frog.Needless to say, but I will anyway - I love this novella. Short enough to read in an evening, it is a traditional sweet romance with a few interesting twists that cause anguish for the character before the happily ever after. Included are several female characters, Emily, Addie and Maria-Therese. I would want as friends. Caring, hardworking, honest and loyal, they are more alike than different no matter their social position. It’s a fun uplifting read.Net Galley provided a copy.

Yes, I would have. This was a shorter book and there wasn't a whole lot to the story. Don't get me wrong, you have the back story for the main characters and a little bit for the supporting characters, but there's not much drama in this book and that's probably why it didn't catch my attention too well. But then again, the break from all the drama filled books is kind of nice. That being said, this was a sweet story. You have the bad boy who's given an ultimatum and the good girl throwing herself into her work. There's no time for anything else and no time to seek out the things that are worth it. They just exist. Until one day...I guess I was waiting for the big shebang or that "oh-hell-here-we-go" moment that is in most books lately. It never came, and I'm ok with that. not every book has to have those moments.I did feel like there wasn't much info on the dates from either Emily or Luc's POV to really get what was going on. I think if we were in their heads and saw more and heard more thoughts during those times, this would have been a lot better and I could understand why the feelings between the two were as deep as what they were so quickly. And again, sometimes there is no explanation for it. It just is.This was the first book written by Melissa McClone that I have read and I will continue to read her work. Just because it's not like the rest, doesn't mean it isn't worth reading. In fact, it's why I will look for more of her stuff!*I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Quick read By Books And Spoons Blog Modern day fairytale story, where the prince is looking for his forever match via reality television. The story is fun and entertaining. For the first time, someone, that being Emily, is giving it straight to Luc. No finesse, not what he would expect to hear, but the simple truth of the matter. The sparks are flying, the banter is constant, and as Emily and Luc get to know each other, while looking for a wife for him, Emily finds out that there's so much more into this prince than tabloids are saying. And maybe what they are saying are not true at all. While predictable, this story is pleasant and enjoyable. It is a clean, lively, and witty romance, a look behind of making of the reality television, and the awkward situations with dysfunctional families. Perfect, quick read for the Easter holidays for the romance lovers~ Three Spoons

Based on that, this reader was glad the author followed with Turner's Vision. The story starts very well but really mostly hinges on main characters not feeling worthy of love based on life's experiences. I get that, but with Claudia her determination not to be told is in the way of good judgement. Micah the Knight In shining armor type, wants to protect her and love her. Claudia just doesn't get it. There is suspense and an adventurous conclusion to the plot begun in the first story. The relationship problems between the two main characters could have been resolved with a little communication, but then that is part of the plot. Two orphan boys in Claudia's care add to the story, along with the butler. I enjoy reading Suzann Ferrell's books, she is one of the better authors in this genre, my opinion. For this reason I gave 4 stars.

Turner' s Vision By debbiejo I thought this book was good when I started reading it but then it seemed like it was going to end much too soon and I just wasn't satisfied. All of a sudden there was this unexpected twist to the story I didn't expect and pretty soon I was quickly turning pages, anxious to discover what happened. Thankfully everything was brought to a satisfying conclusion and left room for future books in the series. I found the heroine in the story totally likeable with a mind of her own and a refusal to be what society and others dictated she be. Claudia was stubborn, independent, and had a heart of gold. She was perfect for Micah. He came to Washington D. C. looking for his sister. He'd had a vision of her in danger and he was determined to save her. While investigating her disappearance, he meets Claudia. This book had danger, suspense, and a heartwarming romance. Would definitely recommend.

Micah is also strong but doesn't feel that he deserves love--from Claudia or his family. The author kept the plots twists coming and it was difficult to put it down when it was time to go to work!! I hope that there are more in this series but you cannot go wrong with a book written by Suzanne Ferrell.

By Antonio Delgado "Oasis: Your Personal Rest" is a unique devotional book in that my friend Jason Moore walks you through an intelligent progression towards a revelation of Grace and what it truly means to “rest” from a Godly perspective. “Rest” assured that as you go through this 90-day journey you will be taken to a place of rest, which is Spirit led activity, where your life will be refreshed and energized in the same manner that eating natural food refreshes and energizes your natural body. I thoroughly enjoyed this devotional because it gave me a fresh perspective on rest.- Antonio Delgado, Christ Follower and Future Church Planter, Baltimore, MD

But Oasis gives you the practical tools to rest in Gods faith. To truly sit in places of rest in your spiritual journey. And it doubles as a reference for the category of rest and peace to meditate on. This is an amazing book!

From selling her family on a popular website, to protecting an imperfect evergreen tree with five tops in her yard,(What would happen if they cut humans down for being imperfect?), author Julie Seedorf's Something About Nothing is a collection of columns by that same name that debuted in 2006. In everything that we speak to our friends and neighbors, there is something hidden deep in the recesses of our hearts -- silent, wanting to come out when we greet one another. We feel no one cares if we hurt or need a little kindness to make us smile each day, and so we spend our conversation on nothings. "How's the weather?" "How are you?" The answer is always, "Fine". We don't always answer with what is hidden below the surface. This collections of columns is full of inspiration, silliness, and heart. Laughter and dreams keep the soul alive. They are the something's needed in our soul of life.

She asked if I could give her a review when I was done. That was many months ago, so I hope she didn't give up on me.Part of the reason this took so long was because of how much I enjoyed it. "How could that be?" You may ask, "Why wouldn't you read it right up if you liked it?" Well, it was because I didn't want it to end. It was just so great. This is a collection of Julie's articles she put together in one book. I didn't realize this at first. All I knew was the title, and I thought the cover looked pretty great. After reading the first few segments, I thought, "Gee, this sounds like it should be a blog, not a book."Then I realized it basically was just that. I'd put it down and pick it up to treat myself to a few yummy tidbits of Julie's life. You see, she writes about herself; her thoughts, her experiences, her feelings. I felt like I was getting to know her slowly as the book unwound.I loved her honesty and thought process. She is forthright in her writing, and admits she's not always perfect, including her writing. She accepts many things about others, and hopes that they do the same for her. She treats people with the respect and kindness she would like to be treated with. If she's anything like her articles, we could definitely be friends. Many times I thought of my parents when I read her articles. I figured she must be around their generation. Yet I also related to her. She talked about things about her youth and past, but didn't make me, the reader feel lost being from a different time. She brought me right in with her. My dad has a knack for that as well, so I appreciated her story telling very much.Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read tidbits. They are funny, fun, whimsical, kind, thoughtful and provoking at times. Well worth the read.

By Lisa Ks Book Reviews SOMETHING ABOUT NOTHING is a delightful and thought provoking book based on author Julie Seedorf’s column by the same name.I love her idea that “…underneath all the nothings we talk about – there is something much deeper needing to be said.” It’s so very true. We automatically answer fine or pretty good, or we expect others to answer the same. But what are we really thing? Feeling? With chapters titled Wrinkly Crinkly, Ugly Shoes, I’m A Shorty, and Me? A Whimp?, just to name a few, I found myself lost in her words over and over again. It was as though author Seedorf had written this book (her column) based on my life. I’m sure you’ll find yourself on these wonderful pages too.Treat yourself to this fun, thoughtful, and insightful book today. And pick up a copy or two for loved ones. Buy A Friend A Book Day is August 31. SOMETHING ABOUT NOTHING will make a perfect gift for that or any day!Julie Seedorf is also the author of the hysterically funny, Fuchsia Minnesota Mystery series, and the Granny Is In Trouble Children’s Mystery series. She is also part of the We Go On: Charity Anthology for Veterans.I have no doubt you’ll adore her books. I sure do!
