This is the definitive account of the Avro Manchester based upon detailed research by Dr Robert Kirby. This new and greatly expanded edition follows on from Dr Kirby's original edition of 1995, containing 30 per cent of additional text and is richly illustrated with more than 200 black and white photographs. In the early dark days of the Second World War, RAF Bomber Command was obliged to operate for 18 months deep into occupied Europe with the underdeveloped, Rolls-Royce Vulture-powered Avro Manchester. It was the largest and only Allied bomber to use the Vulture operationally. This account draws out, chronologically, the airframe and engine development intermixed with personal experiences from pilots and other personnel. Early evolution was protracted, and unrealistic multiple roles were abandoned. All flying surfaces required extension to provide an adequate flight envelope and progress was further set back by severe Vulture problems. Avro Manchesters entered squadron service without significant type-testing being undertaken and in the first eight months witnessed four groundings. Rolls-Royce themselves contributed this illuminating aspect. Eventually, seven RAF squadrons, using 202 Manchesters with 538 Vultures contributed 1,260 sorties, mainly day and night bombing and mining. A contrasted highlight is the stunning aircrew accounts, fearful of weather, flak and fighters, but perpetually nursing and cajoling their temperamental Vultures through hostile skies. Through the narrative several threads reveal the ultimate wisdom of persisting with a type which ultimately blossomed into the 'war-winning' Lancaster. Robertson (GirlyGirlBookReviews) This is the perfect blend of midevil romance and hot passion. You find yourself in a world where there are immortal and mortals who are at war with each other and seek revenge.  The plot is one that kept me turning the pages and wanting to see what would happen next.  I loved the mixture of gods and mortals to add the extra spice.  You have Cam who is clan leader, yet doesn't want it.  He wants the one thing that he can't have a simple life! He's strong and yet feared.  But much like most lairds during that time has a puppet master. Maili, I loved the way she thought.  She is a goddess! She is there for one thing, seek and destroy for revenge! A woman scorned and on a mission is trouble; however,  she does have one downfall.  Will this lead her away from what her first mission was?  The author has a way with her writing that kept me interested with more than just the hot scenes I enjoyed reading the whole storyline and the fact that there was more to it than just another highland romance. This is a highland romance with a twist to it and worth every second you read it. Oh and lets not forget the cover, everyone knows im a cover fanatic and this is definitely eye catching!! Love it!!! Pick up this highland diamond now! Looking forward to book 2 and what is in store for us there???

By KElizabeth Green I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. Actually, Camulus is the first book I've read by Bambi Lynn, but it won't be the last. Initially, I was drawn to the book by her excellent choice of cover art. She is a very detailed writer. By that I mean she spends time with the small things in the story that someone else might overlook. I must say, this was a first for me in my paranormal romance stories. Camulus takes place in Scotland at a time when gods and goddesses were thought of as being a part of the "old religion". The characters were well thought out and defined. I just loved the character of Maili, with her descriptions of how she perceived what was going on around her as well as struggling with her own inner thoughts and wishes. Maili anguished over whether or not to keep a bargain she made to get her powers back, or to allow herself to take a chance at falling in love when she thought her own destiny was already set. Can Maili trust her heart, or should she go with what her head is telling her. Being a woman, sometimes logic isn't what she really wants to dwell on and therefore tries to push those thoughts aside. Camulus is a wonderful character as well, surprising Maili with his actions and reactions to their situation. I loved the book and now am looking forward to reading the other characters stories which follow. Nice work and an enticing read.

By Elizabeth A Evans This is the first book in the Gods of the Highlands by Ms. Lynn, and she couldn't be off to a better start.Camulus Vass is the laird of the large Munro clan, & craves the simple life.Maili is tasked with getting rid of the offspring of an Ancient God, oh did I mention she's a Goddess, bent on revenge.Throw in Camulus conniving Uncle & you have a wonderful, fun, fast-paced read.Short but highly entertaining, full of romance & passion.The characters well written & I loved the Mortal/Immortal aspect....Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

The purpose of this book is to tell a little about the history of the White House and its culinary department, and to shed some light on the dietary preferences and quirks of some of the Presidents and their families. Smile-producing stories, presidential food preferences, and evocative descriptions make Presidential Flavors a pleasure to read. Quotations add to the charm of the book. For example, the remark, “Why, I never get tired of having a good time” shows the attitude that enabled Lucy Hayes to adapt well to the social obligations which she was expected to carry out. By the mid-point of the nineteenth century, pretty Victorian foods and table settings were in vogue, and the White House tended to exhibit current trends. A bouquet at the place setting of each White House state dinner guest during the Pierce administration gave a hint of all that Victorian hospitality entailed. The bouquets “ . . . were stiff and formal things, as big [a]round as a breakfast plate, and invariably composed of a half-dozen wired japonicas [small camellias] ornamented with a pretentious cape of marvellously wrought lace-paper.” Traditional food storage and preparation techniques gave way to new ideas inspired by technology. Seasonings, manner of presentation and service, and menu complexity were changing. Grandness and grandeur were de rigueur at formal dinners. The “humanness” of President Cleveland is revealed in a dialogue involving his instructions to exchange his fancy dinner for the servants' bill of fare. (He wasn't trying to be noble — he preferred what they were having.) The dynamic personality of Theodore Roosevelt aptly foreshadowed the thrilling and tumultuous century ushered in by his administration. Technology was changing the way Americans cooked and the way war was waged. Electricity in the kitchen and aeroplanes in the sky — progress was accelerating at a startling speed. The American homemaker was offered labor- and time-saving appliances and equipment to ease her workload. Perhaps she could devote less of her life to housework. Maybe she could even work outside the home if the need or desire arose. What changes the 20th century held! The ultimate "character" and "mindset" needed for one to learn of the "sacredness" in "food preparation, security, presentation and the eating etiquette" is displayed, eloquently, throughout these chapters. Mongiello I have had the honor to enjoy Patricia, Sarah and Henry Mitchell's work of over 70 food and history related books. Each is a tome of excellent references and accurate, methodical proofs. The detail is amazing and no less on working with them to publish this latest read. I have already begun book signings for it and sales are powerful. I and my chefs love cooking the recipes on stage, from inside, and then sharing in the eating of them!

I love this man for the way he treated Layla and her little sister Fallon and showed them what a real man is despite having an absentee father growing up. He wanted Layla but I love how he put her first and took things slow and really got to know her when friendship is all she could do first, having being in and out of an abusive relationship.I love the strength in Layla. She is so selfless and taking on so much with the crappy hand she's been dealt and putting up with. She is the true epitome of light and strength with a big heart. She has a sister to take care of that is motivating her to provide her with a better life than she had with their mother but also trying to be fully independent herself and make a life of her own.Together Eli and Layla have this amazing chemistry and are both what each other needs. Layla learns to open up to Eli and to her friends and finds that family is also who you make of it and you can ask for help and true family will be there for you to lean on without needing something in return. With Layla, I think Eli finds his balance and fulfillment in life making time for more things than just work. He also has a big heart to match hers and loving his new shared responsibilities with Layla and Fallon.And for those not happy when this book ends, life is about the journey and the fact that Layla finds happiness and got to experience how to be loved and lean on and be supported by friends who are now her family, it's just a great story no matter what and we must focus on loving life like Layla!

By Brandy Raub Eli & Layla...Eli & his best friend Cooper Cahill own Fierce together.Layla is best friends with Cooper's girlfriend, Jaylinn. Layla was hired as a bartender at Fierce.With Eli & Layla working close together they quickly fell for each other.If you have read Megan's Love Series then you already know Cooper & Jaylinn.Author Megan Smith did it again, she wrote another amazing book. I felt so many emotions in this book, I was happy, sad, I laughed, felt the love, I cried & I cried harder!

Just as I did every other Megan Smith book I have read !! Which I believe would be all of them !!!!!!!!!! Then of course I bawled my eyes out like a snotty little toddler throwing a temper tantrum from about 85% on !! This is also not new to me when it comes to Megan Smith , she does enjoy torturing in some of her books. This is why I read , I love being tortured and teased and kicked in the gut , not in real life just in my wonderful book life. I was destroyed and wasn't sure I could even start another book but after a few hours of sleep here I am writing my review and moving on. I won't forget , but I also am feeling more at peace with the ending. I am looking forward to more from the original gang , I mean Cooper must have had some serious struggles with this and I of course want more of everyone I feel they all have more to tell !!If you have read Megan's other books you will already know all the characters , even Eli and Layla , and you will have already seen some of this play out through Cooper and Jay's POV. I love multiple POV's , love being in everyone's head !! This book is mainly about Eli and Layla but you do get quite a bit of Cooper and Jay since they are each others besties and they lend some POV as well. Eli's story is pretty straight forward. He is everyones savior and protector. He protects and runs the club while Cooper is away for baseball , he watches over Jay and Cooper's house as well. He protects his sister from her dumb exes and spoils his niece rotten. He wants to take care of and protect Layla as well. He very rarely has a selfish moment. Until he is frustrated and drunk. He is an amazing guy and I loved every piece of him that we got. I mean I hate bar flies but no doubt he was hot and I enjoyed envisioning the cover model as Eli in action !! He is intense in everything he does. The pull he feels towards Layla is scary intense and full of passion. You know when he gets what he wants it will be EPIC !! Eli deserves some happiness for himself. Layla is living a nightmare. Her mother comes and goes as she pleases leaving Layla to care for her little sister and take care of bills to their crappy apartment. Layla relies on her abusive boyfriend for just about everything and he willingly gives and expects too much in return. Thankfully by the time we get to Layla she has had enough and we see her strength building. Sadly she doesn't tell anyone anything about her life not even those who think they are her best friends. After a few too many events that strike Eli and Jay as weird they finally get to the bottom of Layla's secrets and the desire they have to help is amazing. Once life starts to turn around for Layla and her little sister Fallon we also see the even more amazing side of Eli !! I swear their relationship is beautiful and heartfelt and so full of love and emotion before they even make it official. All the while you are on the edge of your seat just waiting for Brain , the abuse now ex ?? I mean between him and the mom it really is a roller coaster of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Well it drops and it drops hard and heavy. I think I went through a whole box of tissues. It will gut you , maybe ?? Maybe not ?? I mean I expect some drama and heartache from a Megan Smith story but this was a whole new level of it. HOLY WOW. The ending , the 6 months later , the letter , OMG as if I wasn't already destroyed. So am I being vague , probably , but you know what just go read it !!
