By Alexandra C Zito Coach Ourso was always one of my favorite teachers. He was not only interesting (obviously) but he was helpful, caring, hospitable, and extremely kind. He always made every single person feel important. He showed us that he cared. After hearing about Coach's sex change, I decided to read the book out of interest... I am SO glad that I did. Let me first say that I HATE all of the pain and suffering that he/she endured throughout his/her life. I hope that he/she is finally at peace with life. I can also (now) add courageous to the list to describe Coach. He/she stated that the purpose of this book was so that men and women could better understand each other.. it's so like him/her to constantly be thinking of ways to help others, despite his/her hardships. I can not begin to understand the pain and horror she suffered as a child. This is an amazing and unique look at many of the differences between testosterone fueled men and estrogen fueled women by someone who has been both. I am proud to know Kendra and even more honored to call her a friend. You simply have to read this book.

A SUPREMELY MASTERFUL LOOK AT THE WORLD OF FILM NOIR By Johnnery This is a brilliantly-written and totally engrossing book on the unforgettable films and actors of film noir. Jake Hinkson's knowledge of the genre is laregely unparalleled and his love of the subject is apparent on every page. His essay on the sad life of actress Peggie Castle ("The Girl They Loved To Kill") is included here, and it is a heartbreaking and superbly compassionate read. Jake Hinkson is my favorite noir writer (by far), and I hope this book is a huge success for him. I know I will be returning to it again and again; that's how much I love it.

The Blind Alley gives you a kind of "Jake Hinkson Noir City Special"!! He writes about all kinds of Noir subjects in SUCH a way that you HAVE to check out what he writes about! The Noir City Annuals have a special place on my book-shelves and this book will stand before the first issue!!! I found it fascinating to read about Casada and what life in this little Italian village was like as far back as the 1500s. At one point in the town's history, 200 of the 300 people shared the last name Comis. Shortly before WWI and in the ensuing years, many of the residents immigrated to the US and ended up working in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. What a hardscrabble life those people had. If you're at all interesting in history, this book is for you, Italian or not. The many photos are an added plus!

By Marie A heart warming book on many levels. A beautiful story about Italian immigrants and their journey to America. The author did a wonderful job describing the lives of her ancestors, so much so that as the reader you thought you were living in that time period. The story was translated beautifully from Italian to English over the past two years. What made it even more special was that the translation was done by the author's cousin. You cannot put the book down and it is so very worthy of your time and will make a difference in your heart when you finish it.

Thanks for sending me a copy of this Michele, it did great to me!I was frustrated with my lack of motivation to exercise, and diminishing capabilities that fed my laziness. The author conveys common sense applications and methodologies to allow everyone at any age and fitness level to keep limber.I wish I had this knowledge to integrate into my sports routines and all those fun activities, which later resulted in injuries and worn out muscles and joints.

It contains information on preventing wrinkles, the importance of exercising, reducing stress, and eating well. There is even information on how to make your own, natural products! I especially like the emphasis on enjoyment (like travel, spending time with family, etc.) and an important part of the anti aging process!

Gilbert is very knowledgeable and credible in the manner in which she explains the effects of exercise (good and bad) on our bodies. The amount or research that has gone into this book is evident. This is the second of Douglas' books i've read and was overjoyed with the insight and thought provoking statements. As a ritual, I wake up, read the daily passage and use it as a guideline as I go through my day. It's really helped me break free of constricting habits and allowed me to open my mind and explore new thoughts. Douglas has a strong and deep understanding of man's purpose on this planet and that is never more evident as you flip through the pages of Live Your Life in AWE.In short, this book has profound effect on the way I live my life. I recommend it anyone and everyone. It's one of the books you should always reference regardless of ideologies and status.

24 of 25 people found the following review helpful. A starting point, no revolutionary advice By Afterbyrner Amazon was giving this book away, and I need a vacation, so I downloaded it. It's a quick read. Although it's about 77 pages you could read every word in about an hour. If you're new to travel hacking, or have never heard of travel hacking, this is as good a starting point as any. I'm not going to say that the information given is common sense, because a lot of people don't know much about anything, but the whole 77 page book basically boils down to one concept: sign up for rewards credit cards.I suppose one could call that a "travel hack," but I would prefer to think of it as a starting point. Basically everyone that wants to travel for free should begin by picking a destination, a carrier and signing up for their rewards card for the free miles. I was hoping for some advice on racking up miles AFTER getting the initial boost, or some super secret method of meeting the minimum spending requirements, or at least a script for getting out of paying yearly fees. Each of those tips are reduced to one or two paragraphs that basically give you a concept but no real direction.I would love to see some content added covering topics like miles runs, status bumps, obtaining free upgrades, or maximizing miles from spending. Otherwise this is just a really long tutorial about getting a bunch of credit cards.

Sorry to say, but it's geared toward absolute beginners, likely people in their early 20's who might have never seen a credit card before. The message of the e-book: "You can sign up for CC's and earn points and fly to anywhere you've ever dreamed!" The author says that he's only been doing this for 2 years. The book is filled with testimonials from other travel hackers that contain their Twitter accounts for you to contact them. Nobody shares anything really worthwhile to help you understand the game. The author himself says that he's never done tried any advanced points generation techniques, but shares some links to some blog entries (one of which was is already dead at the time of the book's release).The "valuable" minimum spend tips:- Make your mom an authorized user, ask her to spend like normal on your CC, then give you a check.- Go to restaurants with friends. Have them pay you back in cash- If necessary, eat the cost of paying your bills with a credit card. "It's worth it, seriously!"The book doesn't provide enough useful suggestions about particular cards to look out for. Instead, it's more about setting your goals beforehand and then carefully deciding on cards. The book provides a decent enough job of warning people not to overspend and how to not destroy your credit, but I feel like I could've written the same content, and I've only been doing this for a few months. The book does offer a free Udemy course, but given the material in the book, I probably wouldn't waste my time.So if you want a book that gives high-fives to a circle of friends and cheers you on for opening credit cards responsibly, buy this book. Otherwise, move along. There are better resources out there.The author thinks he'll charge $10 for this one day, but in my opinion this book would probably have difficulty selling many copies at $0.99. It's more useful to raise awareness to get people reading particular travel hacking blogs.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Quick read, simple concept, interesting topic! By Eric Welsh Who knew? It is actually pretty easy to travel hack. I've heard those rumors and stories from people who have a friend of a friend that finds some conniving way to game the system to their advantage. This friend of a friend always seems to get ridiculously good deals, to meet important people, and get to places where nobody you actually know has ever been. It seems to be some far off and difficult thing that normal people can't do. I was curious, and the book takes less than an hour to read, so I checked this one out. It's pretty well laid out, and *spoiler alert* it gives a step by step method of using credit card travel points that anybody can follow. Overall, I recommend it because of it's simplicity. Individuals can choose to implement it themselves or not depending on how they like to manage their money, but it takes that rumored concept which that one friend of a friend utilized to get all that cool stuff and lays out how it's actually done. Interesting read!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This book needs an editor! By Grit Lit Michelle Herman took to choral singing after a lifelong tendency to avoid group activity. The first part of this essay collection, by far the best part, describes how she came to join a local chorus. Her comparisons of her youthful self to her daughter, their bonding over performance, are charming.But then the book wanders off, in endless circles of thought, describing Herman's previous apartments in detail, along with her neighbors, favorite Broadway songs, and other disparate elements that she never manages to weave into a coherent narrative. I started to wonder if this book is self-published, as any editor would have cut 100 pages and forced the author towards coherence. As it is, Herman gets lost in boring details, with lines such as, "I'd started working at a 40 hour a week job the day after my last final at Brooklyn College, and saved every cent of every paycheck (minus subway fare and the cost of a daily cup of takeout coffee and a buttered roll from the Market Diner on 33rd and Ninth, halfway between my subway stop and the building where I worked..." If she can remember it, she tells it, no matter how unenlightening the facts. And she's careless with easily checked material, such as misspelling Eydie Gorme and Linda Ronstadt's names.There are better essay books. Might as well skip this one.
