A set of cards for connecting with the ancient spirit and nature of Australia Drawing on the ancient wisdom and spirit of Aboriginal Australia, Laura Bowen has created the Dreamtime Reading Cards using indigenous dot painting techniques. These beautiful cards are powerful meditations, showing you the world with a new pair of eyes and allowing you to connect with spirit. The 36 cards feature the flora and fauna and sacred spaces of land, water, and sky that reflect those that surround us, exist below us, and live above us. Each card contains spiritual meaning and personal messages and the accompanying book offers a detailed explanation to guide you in your understanding. Back in the beginning, in the Dreamtime when the earth was being created, there was spirit. Some of these spirits became a part of the landscape, some took on the shape of the Australian continent’s abundant flora and fauna, and some became man and woman—and it is from them that we are all descended.

After rescuing Mardie from a difficult situation two years prior, she had never left Jett's mind. Now he's been purchased in a bachelor auction to be her handyman for a week and is determined to make up for what he sees as a personal failure from the past. Mardie knows not to look a gift horse in the mouth and having Jett around to help fix up her house is a godsend. But when Jett appears as interested in her as in his handyman job, will she be willing to open herself up to the possibility of something more?I really enjoyed this story! Jett is the sweetest guy - strong, dependable, capable and flirtatious. He's pretty much always gotten what he wanted, with women and in life and being sidelined from his skiing has given him the chance to focus on what he really wants for his future. Much to his surprise, the quiet strength and beauty of Mardie calls to him like no other woman, and his attraction to her has not been diminished over time and their past history. I loved Mardie's character too - she's overcome a bad marriage, is raising a child on her own and has found the inner strength required to move forward. The sexual attraction between her and Jett is hard to deny and leads to some sweet and sexy scenes between them. I enjoyed the banter between them and the sexual tension heating up as the week progressed. Equally as interesting were the secondary characters, friends and family of Mardie and Jett who want only the best for each of them and realize that together they make a great pair. I don't always like stories with young children in them, but this one was done really well and the interaction of Jett with Mardie's daughter Claire was super sweet and loveable. For me, this was a truly enjoyable and entertaining read. 5 stars!

The romance books by this publisher are upbeat, solidly written stories that are not too long. They can be read in an evening or two. There are some series and books I have liked better than others. The Bachelor Auctions ranks up as a favorite so far. This entire series has had interesting characters from varied backgrounds who have started out helping an injured boy and his mother, then branched off into their own stories. I do love that I’m getting to visit Marietta, Montana in this series. Like those potato chips that you can’t just eat one, this small western town keeps me coming back for more. This fourth auction story, What a Bachelor Needs by Kelly Hunter is now a favorite of mine. Mardie is a former abused wife who is staying strong while raising her young daughter. The author shows her setting goals and trying to stand completely on her own, which I completely admired.Jett is such the perfect male and not just for Mardie. He is handsome, confident, and successful. He takes winning his sport competitions seriously but not himself. Plus, he truly is a handy man to have around. I loved the relationship building between these two and Claire’s input, she seemed to fall for Jett first. The ending is wonderful and romantic. This is an all-around great romance. It’s a gold medal winner!Just like the potato chips, you can’t read one of the Jackson brothers’ stories without wanting another one. I found two more, Caleb’s and Eli’s. Hope Seth is up next.Net Galley provided a copy.

With help from his granddaughter Tea Joe, Gerald Hickman shares his love of Western U.S. history in Good Times in Old Genesee. It's a personal and historical recollection of Genesee, Idaho from a former resident, a trip in time to his childhood ranch and beyond, back to the pioneers, in the Genesee valley of North-Central Idaho. It's a visit to Old Genesee, a small community deep in the winter snows and summer grains where his family found a place for themselves. The book covers the period from the first settlers of the 1870s to World War II. It describes the natural history of the area, the early town, and the farming and country life of the early pioneers and those who followed, as engines replaced horses out in the fields.

From the Native Americans who lived here to the first settler/farmers, this nostalgic book covers the geology, natural history, weather/climate and history of the town of Genesee and the whole of Latah Coiunty.Great historical photos make this a good read for anyone and it is a source of the development of farming/raching practices from the earliest days to the modern tractor and combines. The authors family is traced from their origins in Europe and Eastern North America to their arrival in North Idaho. The impact of both World Wars on the town is covered and how the young people developed careers away from their hometown is shown in several examples. The reviewers said that the book is a nostalgic read and it took them back to their youth in such a small community. You will like this one.

Tim Gunn: The Natty Professor: A Master Class on Mentoring, Motivating, and Making It Work!, by Tim Gunn

Review Praise for Tim Gunn: The Natty Professor "Tim Gunn's done it again but this time he's going to surprise you because he goes places you didn't realize he's been. His lessons, his intuitiveness, his empathy—Tim Gunn at his best. Give it a read, you won't be sorry. Lessons for all!" (Whoopi Goldberg)“This book is as smart and fashionable as Tim Gunn himself, and it's teeming with surprising, moving, and often hilarious stories about teaching, learning, and life. I loved it!” (Bette Midler)“There is a reason Tim Gunn is so beloved. Who else are you going to take advice from if not the consummate gentleman? Tim is the best—and he knows what he’s talking about!” (Heidi Klum)Praise for Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible "Tim Gunn is fun and chatty, but most of all he is incredibly knowledgable and informed!" (Diane von Furstenberg)“Tim Gunn’s Fashion Bible is a must-have for discerning fashionistas. Not only is it packed with fun facts from the whole of fashion history, but it is a rollicking good read and, in many places, laugh-out-loud funny. Gunn combines acerbic wit with disarming charm—a rare combination—such that we don’t realize how much we learn from the book. Beware: he may be unforgiving when it comes to a favorite style—but you can’t help feeling he’s right.” (Kathryn Earle, Head of Visual Arts Publishing at Bloomsbury)“Rich with photos, this book combines Gunn's signature brand of sassy wisdom with a smart and entertaining journey through the history of fashion--no item in the closet is left uncovered…. Gunn makes this history of fashion more than just another lesson about fabrics and dyes--for him, it's the people and the culture that bring the items we wear into sharper focus; in fact, Gunn states that "the primary purpose of this book is to give your clothes more significance." …. Numerous cultural tidbits, fantastic images, and sartorial wisdom from one of fashion's most respected gurus make this a must-read for "everyone who gets dressed in the morning, not just an elite crew in Manhattan." (Publishers Weekly, Starred Review)"[Gunn's] expertise is very up to the minute, and while this book is a valuable guide for today, it will also reflect well historically on our current styles in decades to come." (Saturday Evening Post)

About the Author Beloved pop culture icon and New York Times bestselling author Tim Gunn is best known as the Emmy Award–winning host of Project Runway. He also hosted two seasons of his own Bravo makeover series, Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, and was the host of the reality TV series Under the Gunn.

LIFE AS A NEW TEACHER

When I was a classroom teacher, the first day of class was so important to me. There is so much to be said about that first day. We’re making a first impression and so are the students. I’d like to think that I’m dispelling their preconceptions and that they are more alert and they’re thinking, Oh! This is engaging! You want them to know you care about them. In fact, if someone was absent on that first day, I often told him or her to go ahead and withdraw. That first class was about learning the basics: who they are, who I am, and my rules and expectations. One expectation I always wanted to extinguish was that just showing up to every class meant “I get a B or a C.” Showing up is the smallest expectation I had for any of them. Key to first impressions is, as we all know, what you wear. That goes for both teachers and students. As a teacher, I felt stronger and more in control if I looked professional. Even in my junior days of teaching, I always wore a tie. It might be a knit tie, and I might have worn jeans with it, but a tie denotes effort. I wanted to feel in command, and dressing up helped me do that. Also key for teachers looking to make a good first impression is to look around the room at the start of every class and fully engage with the students. Opening the class with “How are you?” is a sensational idea, and so simple. In any group, you don’t walk in and start to talk. You shouldn’t do that in a classroom, either. I would ask everyone in the class to say their name and something about themselves, and then I would make notes on the roster. I found the students felt more invested if they introduced themselves rather than just saying, “Here!” They had a responsibility to show up and participate and contribute to the chemistry of the class. “You’re all on an even playing field,” I told my students in my opening remarks. “You will distinguish yourself up or down from this point forward. Just being here, that’s not enough. You have to fully embrace these assignments and do them exceptionally well. You can’t be a cipher. Just because you’re present doesn’t mean you’ll get a good grade.” At the end of every class, I would wait until everyone was gone and the next class was coming in, and then I would think, Now I can go. Maybe no one would come up to me after class for weeks on end, but I still never rushed out. Whether or not they took advantage all semester of my availability, I wanted them to know that if they did need me, I was there to hear what they had to say. Every year a couple of students would approach me on that first day and tell me they didn’t belong in this class because they had experienced the course’s content before and were too advanced. I always said the same thing to them: “For the next four weeks we have an add/drop period. If you show during that time that you are capable of higher-level work, we’ll advance you to the next level.” Did it ever happen? Never. That said, at Parsons you are required to attend classes. You were only permitted two absences, period. The classroom experience is why you’re there. “I have a doctor’s note,” a student might say. “It doesn’t matter,” I would reply. “You’ve missed this experience. You have four absences. You need to withdraw, or you need to take a leave of absence. You’re not going to pass this class. Period.” I would make it clear that this class was about nurturing everyone . . . up to a point. I would give the students explicit instructions in writing via an extensive syllabus. There always needs to be a syllabus. Teachers who resist having one make me nervous. When I was a department chair, I hosted a syllabus workshop and still found teachers hesitant to commit their teaching philosophies to paper. They were paranoid about sharing. But we needed consistency. When I handed out my course syllabi, I would make the students sign a document saying they’d received and, most important, read it. This may sound obnoxious, but it was sadly necessary. Two-thirds of the way through the semester, I would invariably hear, “You never told us that!” And I then would take out the syllabus and show them that they had signed something saying otherwise. One thing I learned in the course of my teaching career was to never judge anyone on that first day. When I started out, I was smug about having the students’ characters all figured out at first glance. Oh, that one seems smart! or This one seems not so bright! But students often—I would say, usually—surprise you. As a young teacher, I misjudged so often that ultimately I stopped judging altogether. It was about reducing my level of frustration. To keep myself from ever uttering the words, “I thought you had such promise,” I maintained a mantra of, “Let’s wait and see.” Often the really articulate, highly participatory students were all talk. To them I often heard myself saying, “You said you could do it. Now where is it?” If we’d only had one meeting, I would have left impressed, but by week three, I would be underwhelmed. My advice to them was, “Stop talking so much and get to work.” To those who initially struck me as weak but who turned out to be brilliant, I said: “Learn how to make a better first impression. Learn how to show off a little.” There’s no substitute for experience. I have the greatest respect for new teachers—their enthusiasm, their eagerness to have a great relationship with their students and to help them learn. At the same time, veteran teachers are great beneficiaries of trial and error. Mistakes are so valuable, providing you learn from them. One of the worst things for a teacher is to be stubborn and rigid. When I began teaching, I erred on being overly kind and generous in my assessment of the students’ work. I realized by midterm that it wasn’t doing them any favors. What I was really doing was lowering the bar of my expectation to where the students actually were. The trouble with that is, they’ll stay there. If the teacher’s expectations are higher than what the students can achieve, they’ll keep pushing themselves. It’s like running a marathon alone: You can’t gauge where you are. And so, as I became a more seasoned teacher, I resolved to keep the bar higher. “My favorite teacher was ‘Doc’ John Anderson, my political science teacher at Edison High School. I was taken seriously as a school athlete, but no teacher until Doc took me seriously. He paid attention to what I said in class. He showed an interest in me. He uncovered the ‘real’ Karen. I began to be recognized as a smart kid, not a jock. He meant the world to me. When you are struggling to find yourself, having someone really listen is very important. I graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I was the first person in my family to get a college degree. Doc gave me the confidence to just go do it. I miss that little guy.” —KAREN, FOOD BANK WORKER, NEW JERSEY

Tim's straightforward and succinct style of writing is very entertaining. If you are looking for stories from Project Runway, you won't be disappointed. There are plenty of references. But it is also full of wonderful stories and advice for teachers of any kind.

By John Martin The Natty Professor is promoted by Tim Gunn as a guide to teaching well. It is actually written by Ada Calhoun and largely consists of anecdotes from Gunn’s long career as a teacher at the Parsons School of Design and host of reality TV shows such as Project Runway. Gunn uses the mnemonic T-E-A-C-H to make his points about teaching, but they are largely common sense and understood by any teacher. The letters stand for:T: tell the truth. Inject reality into situations.E: Empathy. Try to understand where the student is coming from.A: Ask questions of students.C: Cheerleading. Encourage students to do well.H: Hope for the best. Do the best you can and then let go.The book also contains a number of brief letters from students describing a teacher who was influential in their life. What makes the book interesting and even fun to read is the various stories Gunn tells about his varied and noteworthy life. Readers will enjoy these stories even if the education insights are slim. Gunn is also the focus of several other books written by Ms. Calhoun.

What a wonderful book for everyone to read, especially Educators.I only wish I had a teacher who took time out for me in Elementary and High School as those noted in his book. It was bittersweet for me to read these comments from former students about the teachers who helped them out the most. I struggled in school and really only came in to my own when I was 21 and started back to school at a community college. Since then I became a successful Critical Care Nurse and Human Resources Director. I did this on my own, no help from any teacher. I am proud of this in a sense, but wished I had that "special" teacher who encouraged me along the way when I needed it most.Tim is the epitome of an Educator and I have admired him for many years. His humor brought me to laugh-out-loud at times and his compassion is undeniable. Cannot wait for another book. Thank you Tim Gunn !

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved that it was a cross between a second chance romance and a friends to lovers type story. I will say it leaned more towards the friends to lovers story because the main couple were never really together in the past…the heroine just had a major crush on him but was afraid to tell him, but that all changes when they are reunited 10 years later.I thought this was a really sweet love story. The storyline was engaging and held my attention all the way through. I felt that this story was very well written. There was never a time that I was rolling my eyes or felt it was dragging. I really liked that there wasn't an over abundance of drama. Don't get me wrong there was some drama, but it was usually short lived and not dragged out throughout the whole book. I also liked that the author didn't drag out getting the main couple together. It was sort of a insta-love but it worked in this case because they had a history together.I will warn you…..that if cheating is a hard limit for you, then you might want to pass on this book. Normally I don't like cheating in books AT ALL, but for some reason it worked in this story and I wasn't bothered by it. I think that had to do with the fact that the author made it clear from the beginning what a DBag the husband of the heroine's was. There was never a time that I rooted for Samantha and Marc (the DBag husband) to ever work it out. You knew from the beginning that Lucas was meant to be with Samantha and just bad timing and other circumstances kept them apart. We meet Samantha (Sam) and Lucas in this book. Like I said, Lucas and Sam have a past. They went to college together and Lucas was Sam's advisor. They met when Sam was a Freshman and Lucas was older. During the three years they were in college, they remained good friends, but Sam carried a secret torch for Lucas the whole time. She wanted to tell him but when she finally had the guts, something got in the way. After college Lucas left New York and moved to California. Sam's life moved on and she married Marc and had a child named Bella. Fast forward 10 years and Lucas comes back to New York for work and reunites with Sam. What happens after that is a really sweet friends to lovers story and also a story about learning to follow your heart and knowing what is best for you. I loved watching Lucas and Sam reconnect. And watching Lucas with Bella was heartwarming and totally swoon worthy. Lucas truly does make an amazing Book Boyfriend. As for Sam….I loved watching her come out of her shell and realize she deserved to be happy. I enjoyed watching her get a back bone when it came to Marc and his mother.I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a second chance romance or a friends to lovers story. This book will have you giggling, crying, smiling and blushing, but overall it will leave you with a HUGE smile on your face. This is definitely one I will read again in the future!!!! I look forward to more book by this author.

I LOVE debut authors... especially when they are so incredible that I want to beg the author to quit any day job she may have and just write full time. This is one of those cases.First off, I LOVE second chance romances. Love them. The passion between the hero and the heroine seems to just heat up over time and their love seems to build stronger than ever imaginable. So this was right up my alley.Second, there's an element in the book that I usually will not go for. Ever. But in this case, it's just done so well that I don't even consider that element an actual element, if that makes any sense.Samantha is the epitome of a strong, beautiful woman. Even though she has moments of weakness where she feels not good enough, she pushes the feelings down and proves that she's amazing and beautiful and worth it. I love that she shows sometimes she has to get that courage deep from her toes, but still musters it up. To me, that shows an even stronger woman than someone who just simply possesses it easily.Lucas. Oh what can I say? He's dreamy. Totally cheeky to say but yeah, he's totally dreamy. He's an all around good guy. He wants to be everything for Samantha and Bella and tries to have the patience of a saint to wait until she can be his. In the meantime, he's just all around incredible. He's funny, alpha, and truly one of the most swoon-worthy men I've read about in a very long time. He's a man in every sense of the word. Not because he has a fit body or because he has money. No, because he is there for the people he loves and will stop at nothing to make their lives happy.Always You is a perfect blend of poeticism, steamy scenes that had me not willing to put my kindle down, and a love that grew over time, making my heart overflow. The journey I went on with this story kept me engaged the entire time, with just the perfect blend of drama, sweetness and intimacy. I laughed, I cried and I sighed. Made for a perfect story. Stephanie Rose is an author to watch, it absolutely blows my mind that this is her debut book. And a total side note, I love the way Sam and Lucas reconnected - it was so believable to today's standards and allowed for an instant connection for me with the characters.

Outstanding debut novel of love and second chances By EscapeNBooks I was given this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.“Superheroes need a girl they can save, so she can save them right back.”Always You is beautiful and passionate story of second chances and true loving making a way. It is the debut novel from Stephanie Rose and has paved the way for her a bright future in the book world. “Slow and steady wins the race, but keeping it slow and steady hadn’t done much for me in my life so far.”Samantha watched the love of her life walk away and then she settled.  Her love life is now a dead end with a capital M. She's done her best to be the steady hand and keep her family together. But, as things change in her life, there is still one uncharted path that she always wishes she could have taken. “Lucas Hunter’s notice Samantha O’Rourke’s, but sometimes they mess up and let them go.”Lucas is the one that got away. Devilishly handsome, sweet, and charming. He is witness to the adage “don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone”. On the outside he has it all. But, he is lacking the one thing that will make his life complete.Samantha and Lucas have a history. But, they haven’t interacted with or spoken to each other much in recent years. This is about to change. There is no doubt that a force higher than us continues to cause Lucas and Samantha to cross paths. They are compatible in every way, when they were younger and now. Always You takes us on a journey to explore the complexities of their connection. With each turn of the page we are allowed to relive moments from the past as we fall harder for Lucas and Samantha. Each time they are together in the present we trip over our own feet trying to watch too closely, as if doing so would increase their chances of begin together. We are given the perfect story. The perfect guy, the perfect girl. And…the perfect ending!“Alright, Pandora. Game on.”This book should have initially made me feel like the situation was wrong.  But, all I could think was that it was SO right. And I was screaming, "YES!"  Not only could I feel every single emotion that Lucas and Samantha felt, I shared those emotions. They were intense and unwavering. Boy meets girl and crushes on girl. Girl meets boy and falls in love. Then, sexy, grown man reconnects with woman and is changed. Sensual and complicated woman becomes reacquainted with the man of her dreams and is allowed to love. Every hot and dirty word from Lucas's mouth made me savor the moment and race to get to the next scene. That mixed with his terms of endearment left my insides melted. There were so many moments that were amazingly intense and intimate. I also loved that the other special person in Samantha's life was a very integral part of the story. She was fun, witty, and affectionate. The character personalities coupled with Author Stephanie Rose’s fluent style of writing made this a story that should not be missed.“You’re my favorite part of every day.”

Review "What I loved about this book is that it concentrated on a small, very haunted state. While I am quite familiar with some of the locations, others I don't know well at all. Fresh information presented in an entertaining fashion, 13 Most Haunted in Massachusetts is a great paranormal reference." --Author Kimber Leigh

From the Author I look again at the second-floor window, expecting to see Mattie Cornwell, the spirit who mistakenly crossed to the light years ago. Instead, I see a black bird, possibly a crow or a dark-colored pigeon, perched on the ledge. The white-lace curtains move as if someone is peering out of the window. I can't breathe.

By Cymberle I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest reviewI eat up just about anything I can find about the paranormal-- hauntings being my favorite. So you can imagine that I've read about lots of different haunted places. What I loved about this book is that it concentrated on a small, very haunted state. While I am quite familiar with some of the locations, others I don't know well at all. Fresh information presented in an entertaining fashion, 13 Most Haunted in Massachusetts is a great paranormal reference. What I liked:Locations that haven't been hashed to death. I enjoyed reading about places that I've heard of but not in depth. New material makes for interesting reading.Personal experience mixed with history. Mr. Baltrusis didn't just rehash the history of the haunted locations. He drew me in with personal experiences and interviews with others in the field. The writing itself. This book flows in a conversational manner, making for enjoyable reading. Sure the subject matter is interesting, but it's the author's presentation that truly made this book great.Pictures. Yes, I loved the pictures included in the book. They helped me picture the scenes in my mind and brought everything to life.I confess, there really wasn't much I didn't like-- at least nothing worth noting. When I head to Massachusetts, I'll be using this book for my tours. If you love the paranormal, this is a must-read.

After my experiences with the number one haunt, which I documented in my book Bones in the Basement: Surviving the S.K. Pierce Haunted Victorian Mansion, I can confirm the accuracy of this list. This book is well researched and is written with a polished flair. The stories will keep you up reading well past bedtime. I've been to a few of these haunts, but am dying (no pun intended) to check out the rest after reading this amazing book.
