Raven shoved herself to her feet, pulling from willpower she didn’t know she had, to scramble to the railing that overlooked the remainder of the library seven floors below. Drake of Tanith stood at the base of the stairs, looking up. The gray marble flooring at his feet appeared to have been scorched; a black scar of searing evidence radiated out from his boots in a star pattern. The smell of smoke filled the air. An angry magic-formed wind ripped through his hair and tore through his cloak, and yet he remained unmoving, a statue of absolutely beautiful darkness, with glowing eyes. Those eyes imprisoned hers. Time stopped. In that new stillness, he held her fast and slowly began to climb the stairs, a predator stalking skittish prey. The rest of the world fell away, and they were alone. “Raven,” he said. His voice was that of the king of Abaddon now, and echoed with the power of his title. It was the embodiment of promise and need, that duo that tore down a strong person’s last defenses to lay them out for the slaughter. His glowing eyes flashed, his gaze intensifying as stark shadows claimed his face and his look became hungry. “I know you think you have to run from me.” Another step, smooth and slow. “You believe there to be no other way.” 'There isn’t,' she thought. 'I have to… I have to do… something.' “But some things were meant to be.” She could almost feel him upon her, his heat, his strength. She could smell the leather of his armor, and the scent of smoke was stronger now. And something else – magic. It was the aroma of dark magic, like black diamonds crushed into wine. So close. There was the faintest hint of a smile curling the corners of his sensuous lips. “You can’t change fate.” He shook his head, just once. “And fate decided on us long, long ago.” Queen of Abaddon is the long awaited, third and final installment in the romantic fantasy Chosen Soul series by New York Times bestselling author, Heather Killough-Walden. Within its pages, the hunt is on, a war is waged, and the ultimate sacrifice is made - for a love that defies the gods, changes the rules, and turns back time. At long last, it will be a cold day in Hell.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. it is not as good as it could have been By Amazon Customer Sooo am I the only one that was bothered about being 68% through the book and still reading about how the inside of the portal looked and felt? I think she spends to much time on unnecessary descriptions. And wtf!!!! Was up with that ending????? That's all I'm going to say. I'm disappointed. This series is actually the one that got me hooked on HKWs writing. But it just seems like everything that she has put out lately is just not the same as the books I fell in love with years ago. Even her editing is gone down. Maybe she has to much going on or maybe she's trying to finish to many books at one time. I don't know. Normal typos I can overlook and there's more than a few. They happen. But there is one sentence in there that is completely miscombobulated and it seriously took me a minute to figure out. I think after the last three disappointments she has put out its time for me to stop wasting my money. I wish she would just focus on one book and make it great. Or take some time off and deal with all her issues before throwing a book together just because its time. It just seems to me that maybe in the beginning she actually wrote because she loved to and it showed in her stories and now it seems she writes for other reason.

There are moments in this that are quite stunning and beautiful beyond words but on the other hand it is drawn out without much really happening and sometimes is almost confusing. I love getting to the end of a series so for that alone it was worth the wait and the read but there a distinctive lack of something in this compared to other books the author has written. Will it stop me buying anything she writes? Absolutely not because at the end of the day the quality of the writing is so captivating that all else fades.

She leaves you with a full book and no crazy cliff hangers, she leaves you wanting the next installment the following day! each book is a full book and expands on amazing characters that you can relate to, plot twists that bend and shift, leaving you wondering how it will end. The Chosen Soul series is an excellent read along with her "Kings" series and she has more that absolutely astound you with character depth. This trilogy is amazing and has brought an issue to light for me that until this book, had me thinking: "someone out there has to be feeling this way [one of the character's named Summer] feels." The main character, Raven, was a work in progress and I saw her character grow exponentially and Drake of Tanith the with wisdom many seek..........In this triology was innocence and growth - and wisdom for the ages.
