About the Author Carol A Miele is living with stage 4 breast cancer since 2010 and has learned much about this illness along the way. Developing a strong advocacy approach to her own illness and that of others sustains her energy and drive. She was born in Old Forge, a small town in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Earning her nursing diploma at Community Medical Center School of Nursing, she later attended Wilkes University to obtain a BS degree in nursing education. In 2000, she received a master of public health degree at East Stroudsburg University, Pennsylvania. Retiring in 2010 after a forty-five-year nursing career, she was diagnosed with breast cancer that had been missed on all her mammograms and in a breast biopsy. Growing for a number of years, it spread to the opposite breast and then metastasized to bone. In 2011, after several months of chemotherapy, she went into remission. She and her husband, Gene, moved from the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania to Ocala, Florida, in 2013 to enjoy the warm and sunny climate in their retirement. She has two daughters, Marisa and Kristen, and four grandchildren: Joey, Emmy, Alex, and Amelia. Carol A Miele is the author of Metastatic Madness. She enjoys the creative arts, writing, and painting, with her ever-present dog, Flora, at her side.

Carol has faced the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer and has won the psychological battle. She lives a full, productive life knowing what she faces every day. Her prose and poetry make riveting reading. It comes straight from her heart. I know Carol and admire her immensely. Both her books help everyone live a better life knowing what Carol has faced and continues to face. She and her husband Gene are role models for us all. Live every day to its fullest is the message. Never give up. Life is short for us all; just shorter for some than others. If reading Carol's books doesn't improve your outlook on life, you need to reread both of them.

Wilson I just want to say a few words about Carol Meile's new book - "Kicking Cancer to The Curb!". My wife was diagnosed with MBC during Breast Cancer Awareness month 2014, this is her 3rd bout with breast cancer in 20 years, it has now spread throughout her skull, backbone, tailbone and femurs. Bone (from breast) cancer is a brutal, horrific, debilitating and painful disease - our lives have changed dramatically in a very short time. MBC is a multi-headed beast, with bone cancer spawning numerous other serious, complicating ailments (hypercalcemia, malnourishment, dementia, hand & foot syndrome, renal failure to name a few), and it's treatments have deplorable side effects of their own - a complex and overwhelming situation to say the least. A fateful encounter between my Brother-In-Law and Carol at her "Metastatic Madness" (her first book) book signing back in October '14 introduced me to someone who has endured the very same disease which afflicts my wife, but she has turned the corner. The battle, no, the total war with MBC isn't just physical, it also has mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions. We have a great Oncologist and support group, and there are several publications out there which address MBC in clinical terms, but I am the primary caregiver for my wife and most of the time I feel utterly helpless and alone after being thrust into a situation I was unequipped and unprepared for. Carol's books, especially her latest -Kicking Cancer to the Curb! have been therapeutic and comforting to me, she covers all the dimensions I desperately needed. She has a very direct prose style yet her poetry, illustrations, inspirational quotes and introspection reflected through the lens of her own life experience and profession as a career nurse have let me know that my wife and I are not alone - there are people out there who get it and who care. Her over-arching message is one of rising up, confronting cancer, staring it down, and refusing to let it rob us of our dreams, our spirit, our zest for life, and our dignity. She has also been in contact with me, giving me advice, counsel and also a shoulder to cry on, when I need it the most. I wholeheartedly recommend Carol's books, they are a must read for MBC patients, and their care givers.

Miele, has written an exceptional book about a serious disease that afflicts so many people; a disease that is frightening the second its name is spoken. 'Breast Cancer' is terrible, but to receive a diagnosis of Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer is shocking. This is an excellent book for anyone diagnosed with cancer and their supporting family and friends. The author relates personal life stories of her past through prose and poetry about her anguish when she was diagnosed, her realization that she was a cancer victim, acceptance of her situation, and her personal growth and future plans resulting from a Metastatic Breast cancer diagnosis. She also discusses the failure of the cancer community to recognize the problems of patients with Stage 4. In writing this book, Carol has reached out to everyone who has been touched by this devastating disease. She is a courageous woman who is currently living a full and happy life. She gives us all hope.
