By Frank Fahy For one who rarely reads a book, it is the very first time in my life that I have not been able to drag myself away from this scrupulously detailed book. Brilliantly written in a manner that does not allow my mind to stray for a moment. It is a fascinating insight to the world of Ike Eisenhower and Kay Summersby and I am very proud and delighted to have been of some little assistance to this brilliant author.Frank Fahy.

First, despite the Amazon description that it would contain "the latest evidence," no new information was presented concerning the relationship between Eisenhower and Summersby. The book is a rehash, albeit a skillful one, of long-published information about the two, as well as their participation in WWII.Second, and most concerning to me, is the fact that many of their alleged shared intimate moments, as well as Eisenhower's alleged romantic remarks to Summersby were not attributed. In fact, their source was her second "autobiography", "Past Forgetting", the accuracy of which is questionable because Summersby died before having the opportunity to review the ghost written first draft. Allegedly she dictated much of it, but she was in great pain at the time due to her cancer. What would have been helpful would be an opportunity to review the tapes to determine what they contain, and whether Ms. Summersby's voice quality gave any indication of her mental lucidity at the time.Some examples of unattributed information are as follows:(1) the two tailored suits spat in North Africa which they resolve by falling into each other's arms with passionate kissing;(2) Stolen moments in his Algerian villa where he tells her he loves her;(3) The late evening flight to Cairo on 11/24/1943 of stolen kisses;(4) Eisenhower questioning Summersby about her willingness to have a baby; and(5) Eisenhower sneaking little notes to her, but stating she needn't do the same because "Every time you look at me, I see a love letter in your eyes."Whatever their relationship, it appeared to benefit Eisenhower more than Summersby during a time when he was shouldering unprecedented responsibility, and for that we Baby Boomers should be immensely grateful to her.
