By LA Cox **I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.**Book 2 in Dahlia West’s new Stark Ink series is titled Better and it’s a good title, because if you liked the first book, Harder, you are going to love this one.Better picks up where Harder left off, this time telling the story of Dalton Stark, second oldest of the Stark children. Dalton’s life spun out of control after a work-related injury and he lost everything; his dreams, his job and the love of his life, Zoey Connor. Although, in truth, he didn’t really ‘lose’ Zoey. In an effort to do what he believed was best for her, he drove her away so she wouldn’t be caught up and destroyed in the disaster his life had become. It isn’t until his older brother, Adam, forces him in to rehab that Dalton finally begins to take control of his life again, but it is too little and too late for him to pick up the pieces with Zoey, so he starts all over, alone and lonely.Until he finds out that the life Zoey built without him has become the nightmare he was trying to save her from. When fate steps in and gives Dalton the second chance he is desperate for, he has to fight to keep her safe while holding on to the tenuous control he needs to keep the new life he has fought to build. Facing not only the obstacles she must overcome, but the issues that drove them apart to begin with, Zoey and Dalton must find the inner strength that will make them stronger as individuals, but could end what little chance they have of being stronger together to create the family they both want so much.West kicks up the ‘hero-centric’ writing style readers first saw in Harder, in this newest installment. Again, the story and the inner dialogues are dedicated to Dalton. However, in Better, there is a rich history between Dalton and Zoey that was missing between Adam and Calla. It is this history and the interaction with other characters that it brings to the story, which allows us to better understand the path that lead both Dalton and Zoey to where they are and why they do what they do. This creates a more satisfying experience for readers and gives this story a more ‘romantic’ feel. Although it is still Dalton’s story, Zoey completes that story just as Zoey completes the man.West also kicks up the action in Better, even getting Doc and Izzy from her Burnout series some action. More than once, I had to put the book down either because the tension of what was happening was so strong, or because I simply didn’t want the story to end. Readers will root for Dalton, hurt for him and hope for him. Finally, in the interest of keeping this spoiler free, I will only say that there is a chance you will cry for him as well as he shows us that love isn’t always in our control and, sometimes, ‘family’ is a choice.Better, Stark Ink #2 by Dahlia WestGet it. Read it. Love it!

I have not ever read anything by Dahlia West before reading Better. I loved this ! Better is about a second chance for Dalton when his life fell apart apart during a work related accident . He started drinking to deal with what happened . Dalton continues to struggle after he gets sober while trying to make amends. The one person he thought was truly better without him comes to him in trouble . Zoey had moved on with her life to discover the man she was with was no Dalton. She leaves to save herself and finds the help she so desperately needs . Together they rediscover their love while dealing with the new challenges presented by their families , her ex , and his sobriety. I loved this because the author showed what it's truly like loving the person dealing with addiction and how it affects those around them. She shows the hardship and some of the pitfalls that happen while giving you a engaging story . Dahlia doesn't shy away from hard subjects but gives you at times a mood altering read that leaves you wanting more. I will definitely be reading more of her in the future !!

By Amazon Customer I was given a copy of Better (Stark Ink #2) by the author in return for an honest review.I enjoy everything that Dahlia West publishes and I was very excited to hear about the new series she was working one. After reading the first book in this series (Harder) I couldn't wait to get my hands on Dalton even though I was very leery of him coming off as whiney and selfish. Happily this was not the case. Dalton is strong, devoted (even if he doesn't always show it) a bit of an alpha but not like alot of authors are writing about these days. It's more of a quiet alpha. But most of all he is better. He stormed out of the mess he made of his life and made himself a better son, brother, lover and man. Admitting that while he had changes he knew it was still a long path ahead of him. Never did I want to out the book down in disgust because I was irritated. Zoey while important was not a huge part of the book. But I liked her none the less. And while I enjoyed this can't of characters from Better and Harder I love love loved Mr. Stark and Jig. Their conversations were hysterical. This book ended to soon. I can't wait to see where we go from here.
