From the Author I just plain love history. But it was not always so. As a young student and college grad, I still thought history was pretty dull; dull as reading the message on a cereal box or those ridiculous labels on a pillow. Then somewhere in my 40s, I awoke. Local history was all around me and it became an exciting scavenger hunt, finding who did what where I lived. I lived all over America, 'discovering' history in every neighborhood and city.Three college degrees later, I discovered my love of writing about history. My first book was a culmination of three passions: writing, history and aviation. I completed the book, "Pilots, Pinballs, and Politics: the History of Naples Municipal Airport". It told the story of WWII's influence on aviation in SW Florida. It became part of a PBS special on early WWII aviation. I was hooked. Writing could be fun. And, then I moved to SE Tennessee and the grand Smoky Mountains. Local history included stories about General John Sevier, Gov. William Blount, Cherokee Indians, the Secret City and Senator Estes Kefauver; all men. Where was the history of Tennessee women? I could feel a book 'forming' in my brain. Then, I found her...lost in history. Mary Grainger Blount, the little known wife of Tennessee's first territorial governor. Researching Molsey's life was an adventure, for no original sources remain from this woman. But, now, her story has been told in "Molsey Blount: the Colonial First Lady of Tennessee." One side story for this book involves the current First Lady of Tennessee, Crissy Haslam. As I was completing research for this book, a Tennessee Representative suggested I contact the First Lady to invite her to write the Foreword. She graciously accepted, making this book unique with 'bookends' about our colonial First Lady and a Foreword from our current First Lady. See.....I told you history was fascinating.

She lived an extremely difficult life, filled with loss and tragedy. Ms. McEntee did a phenomenal job researching her life and looks to be one of my favorite new authors.

An Emotional Biography of a Neglected First Lady By Laura Muntz Derr Molsey Blount is the emotional story of the life of the first “first lady” of Tennessee. Nancy McEntee boldly takes on a subject that has been neglected by history, the life of Molsey Blount, wife of the first colonial governor of Tennessee. Because so little is known about Molsey except through the filter of her husband’s life, the author's treatment requires imagination. McEnfee's interpretation of Molsey's life is strengthened by careful research that graphically places the reader in the pre-Revolutionary, colonial world and early days of nationhood. It contrasts the powerlessness of women’s lives with the remarkable courage of Molsey and women like her.

The way the tragic life of Molsey Blount was presented had me reading into the wee hours of the morning. There was so much I didn't know before reading this book, as most women of that time period lived their lives in the shadow of their men. The author's craftsmanship in writing made me feel like I was actually there, with her unique blend of historical fact and storytelling, making this book a literary gem. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the early history of Tennessee, colonial times, women's studies, or anyone looking for a great book on a little known subject. Well done Dr. McEntee!
