From the Inside Flap Genie finished making her own drink, and then he heard her footsteps along with the clunk of the cane as she walked across to join him. He waited for her to appear, but to his surprise she stood behind him. Then he felt the soft brush of her lips between his bare shoulder blades. "You have a great back," she murmured, placing small kisses from there around to his shoulders before standing next to him. He looked down at her. "Sorry," he said. She took a swallow from her cup and shrugged. "I can understand why you're mad--that was pretty embarrassing." "It's nothing to do with Tamsin." She frowned. "What do you mean?" He didn't reply, and after a few moments her eyes widened. "You're not talking about Danny, surely?" He looked out across the bay and drank his coffee. She huffed out an irritated sigh. "Niall, seriously? You know we were winding you up, right? Anyway, me and Danny?" She laughed. "That's as funny as saying me and Jonah. All the guys are like brothers to me." "Including me?" Humor lit her eyes. "No, Niall. Excluding you." "Why?" Her smile faded. "I don't know." "You don't think of me like a brother?" "I trust you like one. I respect you. You drive me nuts the same as the others." He couldn't bring himself to smile. "Why were you and Danny winding me up?" "I thought that was what we all did to each other." Not now, he thought. Maybe a long time ago, he'd thought of her like a sister. But no longer. A frown flickered across her brow again. "Why are you so angry with me?" "I'm not angry with you." "Then..." "I don't want you to see anyone else," he said. He waited for the outburst. For her cry of indignation. For her to yell, Who the hell do you think you are? It didn't come. Instead, her lips curved a very tiny bit, and her eyes shone in the moonlight. "Okay," she whispered. He held her gaze for a while. Then they both turned back to the view and sipped their coffee. He couldn't think what to say. He felt confused, hopeful, and frustrated, all at the same time. After a few minutes of silence, she put down her glass and limped off to the laundry room. He waited a moment, then put down his glass and followed her. When he reached the doorway, he leaned on the jamb and watched her, hands in his pockets. She was folding up some washing she'd done earlier, placing tops on hangers and laying jeans over the clothes stand. She glanced up at him, then back at the washing. What was she thinking? She'd expressed no resentment at his demand, and he couldn't understand why. Hadn't it irritated her? She'd always been fiercely independent, disliking any guy who tried to make demands on her. But the only word to leave her mouth had been Okay. Why had she said that? His gaze slid down her, noting the curve of her waist and hips, the swell of her breasts as she leaned over the machine to reach the basket. The pale skin of her neck and behind her ear. How pink her lips were, and her beautiful Cupid's bow. She didn't look up again, but twin spots of red touched her cheekbones. He tilted his head to look at them, and the color intensified. A smile touched his lips. He pushed off the doorjamb and walked into the room. Took the washing from her hands and threw it into the basket. Her lips parted, but she didn't object, her breathing coming quickly as he turned her to face him. Bending a little, he caught the bottom of her dress in his hands and lifted it. Wordlessly, she raised her arms so he could pull the dress up over her breasts and head, and he dropped it to the floor.

If I had 10 stars I would have given them. set in New Zealand the heroine is returning from war with a bad leg. She needs to recover enough to return to the Army. She is suffering from PTSD and a terrible secret she is carrying. Her best friend and childhood pal was killed in the same accident that injured her.The hero in this story is a bit different. I LOVED him. He is so sweet and cute and at times confused!! He has not had a lot of experience with women. He was with his high school sweetheart for 8 years and then he ended it. After you meet her, you will understand why. But, that didn't leave him with a lot of time for other females. He is one sexy gorgeous Kiwi. You will love this guy. Where he is not experienced she is very adventure some in the bedroom. He learns quick. These two sizzle on the sheets. He gets to experience things he has only heard about. he is a very fast learner. Lots of sex as these two get to know one another from a childhood crush on her part to a secret crush on his.There is a lot of drama and she works her way through the guilt of losing her friend and having to face her family. She is blamed by the family for the death of their daughter. The son is in a bad position as he is coming to love her and not hurt his mother's feelings. I thought I had this one figured out but I didn't. The ending had some surprises. These two take a while to get together. Secrets on her part and acceptance on his. It was so good. I loved every bit of it. Lots of extra characters that will probably get their own book. I really liked Danny and knew I would be anxiously awaiting his story. Then at the end of the book there is notice that his story will be out May 2015. I have it on my wish list and will get it. I really liked Danny and want to see him get his girl. Only bad thing...it is 46 days till May. Great read, very entertaining and I HIGHLY recommend it. I just can't get enough of these New Zealanders. Love them.

I was enticed by this book. It discusses the issues of Veterans returning home and the struggles they live with. The main characters are Genie and Niall. The author has made characters that the reader can relate to, laugh with, cry for and with. Many of the lesser characters make an impact on the story even though they aren't the main characters. The places and scenes are described so that you can picture the scenes and colors the characters are seeing. The Sharpe & Brennan families are so close that the kids all feel like they're one big family but Genie has crushed on Niall since her early teens. She's dated several guys and Niall dated but then was with his girlfriend for almost a decade. Sadly he just doesn't see a long time future with her but he realizes his feelings for Gen aren't brotherly. Genie had tried to hide her feelings. Genie and her best friend/sister Ciara enlisted in the army together, worked, played and shared siblings. Then an IED goes off and Ciara dies. Gen suffers PTSD, survivors guilt and it has triggered her OCD again on top of the physical injuries. She came home to a troubled family. Her older brothers marriage is on the rocks and Ciara's mom blames Genie for Ciara's death. This makes going home even more stressful. The tension can be felt due to the author as can the heartache and love. I very much look forward to reading more of Ms Woods books in the future. By Judith Gomes-dell I read this book as part of the Love Down Under BOXSET and was definitely smitten with this author.A couple of my favs emerged from this BOXSET and I must say Ms Woods you are most definitely one. I am hooked on the NZ lifestyle now and I must say this book while it was the last in the reading list of the BOXSET it sure closed it with a loud bang!!!Anyone who has the desire to get wrapped up in a group of some really fun and sexy people who are as different as our dear friends we look forward to greet each day must give this book and, as I am doing now, this series as well as any Serenity Woods book a read.The main characters in "A Secret between Friends" are really well rounded and I found myself getting caught up in their stories as we are carried through heartache and unforgiveness as poor Gin finds a way to forgive herself and make a life with the ones she loves and trust enough to expose her deep love for this man who has been as much a part of her her whole life. She is dealing with a lot of physical and mental healing and brings home to us romantics at heart, that love is one of the best medicines out there for that.We meet other characters who we long to hear their own stories (truly I am dying to find out Beck and Josie's story) and the romance is off the charts .... All I can say is WOW!Caution: Please keep a glass of water at you side when reading and no ... it is not for drinking... Although it may help a tad.I will most definitely be grabbing up more ofMs Woods' books as it sure hits many check marks.
