Excellent History of the Fall of South Vietnam By Michael Buenning I have read a number of books about the fall of South Vietnam, and was very pleased to find that this is the best account of the collapse of South Vietnam. It covers the points of view of all sides in the conflict. Not only does it cogently argue the reasons for the collapse of the South Vietnamese military and government, but gives one a good feeling for the experiences of those who participated in those events. The book is highly readable, and I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in this period of history.

By Andrew California I have read the Vietnamese version of this book, and am now re-reading the English version. Overall, I think it is a good book, with very good and sharp arguments as to why the US has failed in Vietnam. The author has judiciously and cautiously weighed in the points he is trying to make, so as not to sound one-sided and fanatical. Fighting and loosing a war, especially in the case of South Vietnam, is a very emotional thing. If any lessons are to be learnt from that experience, we have to have the courage to do so, in a way that future generations will not have to make those same mistakes again.
