About the Author Monty Clark’s career in higher education has included serving as a teacher, guest lecturer, Department Chair, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Campus Director for various colleges across the country. He discovered his passion for improving the educational experience while helping students prepare to graduate from college. Over the years, Monty has worked with hundreds of faculty and administrators and provided guidance and mentorship to ten times as many students, engaging with people from every socioeconomic background. He began noticing an issue that the educational system has had difficulty in effectively addressing – the student’s ability to turn what they have learned into relevant usable skills to meet the needs of today’s rapidly-changing marketplace. Monty found his niche for providing the information and skills that aren’t specifically taught in schools, such as the practical topics of personal financial management, résumé/portfolio development, interview techniques and building the framework to become successful in today’s marketplace. His success has come from personal experience in applying the concepts he expounds in this book. Monty spent years working with the Education Management Corporation system of for-profit colleges in various roles. He stayed with the company through its acquisition by the Goldman Sachs investment group, but after a few years with the firm’s new direction, he decided to break out and focus on what he saw as gaps in the educational process. By Chell Applicable and challenging for even the most "put together" and "well adjusted" person. We often run on auto-pilot forgetting that we are constantly evolving in a world that is constantly changing. This book reminds us to utilize our uniqueness toward creating and being a part of that change rather than trying to catch up to it.As a parent (trying to keep up with change), I purchased this book with the intent of doing research, preparing my child for the future. But I surprisingly found this book invaluable for any age and situation/stage in life. The author walks you through and provokes memories of those pivotal times when you were faced with a fork in the road. But except this time with renewed perception and unexpected options. With these innovative set of choices, the author shares examples from his own experiences and REAL tools to practice and apply. That being said, if you're looking for a simple "pep talk" you may find this book a little overwhelming. Although, If you're willing to work one step at a time and finally making a difference, here you will find a design that will help you to succeed in life, love and laughter.

Upon reading the book I could tell this is written from the heart and from years of knowledge in the education sector. The first thing I thought? "I wish I had this book as I went into college." Really that is what I thought. I have worked in higher education for over 20 years and this is the first book I have read that clearly explains what you need to know, do and be ready for when going to school. There are a lot of things that are left unsaid and taken for granted when you go to college. This book spells them out, gives you food for thought, questions to ask when you visit a school and ideas to help you all along the way to graduation. So you are looking for employment? There are great chapters in this book to help you get ready for that as well as resources. Monty Clark not only helps you through a challenging part of your life, but does so with humor and empathy. The best part, you can talk to him about what he wrote on his web site! So should you buy this book? YES it is worth every penny for the information and enjoyable to read, do your self a favor get the book now.

By deanna axtell With a high school junior applying to colleges next fall, MONTY CLARK came to our emotional (and financial) rescue with "I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME...".This book is, at once, both timely and timeless-- an indispensable guide to not only avoiding the pitfalls and foibles of The College Experience, but to make the most of its limitless possibilities, as well. I love the folksy, fireside style Clark uses to convey his uniquely engaging and keen insights. He has the professional background to support his advice and opinions, but conveys them in a tone and manner that is accessible to everyone. Reading this guide to campus life is like having your own, personal Collegian Whisperer! Whether you are considering higher education, have already moved into the dorm, or have loved ones heading off to college soon, Clark's musings are invaluable. My only complaint? I Wish Someone Had Written This Thirty Years Ago!
