A kind of death...Alzheimer’s not only steals the patient’s life but also devastates the family—no one more so than the spouse, who is now married to someone no longer “here.” Bleeding Hearts is the candid narrative of a husband torn between love for his wife and the need to move on with his own life. Told by “the other woman,” whom he meets at a time when he most needs her, the story of Eric, his wife, family, and new love, Tami, breaks the silence on a sensitive subject–offering comfort and insight to those struggling with the conflicting emotions that arise when Alzheimer’s strikes the one you love.

About the Author Born a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), Tami is the second of five children born in California, but spent most of her childhood in west Texas. She is a registered nurse, once trauma trained, but whose specialty is pediatrics. Her family moved to Colorado where she married her childhood sweetheart. They had 3 children and were married for 25 years. Tami is now living in Germany with her husband of 3 years. This book is her first attempt at writing and was done so from a collection of her memoirs during the difficult time. She has begun authoring a new book based on her weight loss issues from her gastric bypass ten years ago. She loves traveling, cooking, spending time with family and, now, writing. She has started two blogs to compliment her books; "Bleeding Hearts" and "It's Easier Being Fat".

By Pauline Anderson I found the book to focused on the one person not on Alzheimer's though it was an ok read I'm not certain a real family would actually have that type of experience. My sister has Dementia and we all struggle but support one another !

Tami A Reeves beautifully writes this story that begins to heal not only the bleeding hearts of the family she writes about, but also those of her readers. The love and empathy that she writes about makes you feel like she is there for you, too.I read this book before I went to visit my Grandmother with Alzheimer's, and I wouldn't have been as prepared had I not just read this story. It deals with difficult questions that everyone must face at one point or another, but most will never talk about. For anyone in a family struggling with Alzheimer's, and even to those who are just looking for a book about love and family, I highly recommend this book.

This book is captivating, riviting and beautifully written. Tami, draws you into what it is like to be needed and to need to find yourself and the love you have longed for. This journey she takes you on is one that you can almost feel yourself taking with her. You will be drawn to tears and feel the pain that not only she suffered but her new found family suffered as well. Even if you have never dealt with anyone with Alzheimer's, you will be able to understand it once you have read this book. A must read!
