About the Author Suzanna Parpos has been working with children for fifteen years. Her portfolio is diverse from being a second grade classroom teacher in Boston Public to supporting high school seniors with their college applications at a private high school in Crownsville, MD. Suzanna holds a Master of Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development. She lives in the Boston area with her son. The essays in this book are a compilation of Suzanna’s columns from her first year of freelance writing for the Framingham TAB newspaper.

Each essay examines how we, and our children, can overcome obstacles and find simple pleasures in our daily lives. Drawn from Parpos’ experiences as a single mom, we are taken on the journey of a mother who must rebuild a new life for herself and her son. We learn from her touching stories about young students, who wound up becoming some of her greatest teachers, that children have wisdom to share if we only listen. A Year on Route 30 shows us we can survive loss, receive kindness, and delight in the ordinary joys that are all around us. In full disclosure, the author is an acquaintance of mine. Regardless, I would independently recommend this book for a heartfelt read when you need reminding of the generosity of the human spirit.
