About the Author Lucie Shores McCommon’s talent has taken her around the world. Born and raised in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, she has recently moved to Eugene, Oregon to continue the journey. Her musical and literary talents have been appreciated by many around the world. After college, Lucie moved to Vienna, Austria where she would study music at the Vienna Conservatory of Music. For the next eight years, she taught piano and coached opera singers, and worked with some of the greatest musicians in the world, including many of the premier opera singers of the time. “I was the youngest member of the faculty, a woman and an American, all very different at the time.” Because of her unusual sight-reading ability, McCommon became sought after as an accompanist and coach. After returning to Fargo from Vienna, she began working with Spanish tenor Ricardo Visus, who was a visiting professor at Moorhead State University. She was his accompanist for over twenty years, touring the United States and Europe. After touring, McCommon went back to school at a seminary in Michigan where she received her Masters of Education Degree. “I got together with a group of artists and created the ‘Creativity Tank,’ which was like a think tank, for artists.” She brought the Creativity Tank concept to Grand Rapids, Minnesota, her next stop. There she also got involved in the local arts community and directed a small chamber opera “The Boor.” “There are always people with talent around. I love being together with these people, no matter the project.” Having retired from the field of music where she traveled the world and experienced adventures, she is now writing articles, books and essays and exploring the gray area. Along with quilting, hiking, keeping tabs on grown sons’ families through the internet and traveling with her husband, Lucie finds her life very satisfying!

Recommending this eclectic collection of short stories and essays By Benjamin Marty Insightful, entertaining and often humorous stories from the unique life of a well-traveled musician, mother, accompanist and coach provide an interesting perspective on how one finds one's place and purpose in life. Not so much a how-to as a how-'bout-that. Stories range from musings on computer programming sons' bringing the vocabulary of Star Wars into the family to a brief history of the United States to narratives surrounding people and events behind the scenes at the conservatory of music in Vienna. And throughout much of it we find a recurring realization of how much more there is to our lives than a clear and final sense of success or failure or right and wrong, but rather an ever evolving understanding of an environment perceived in many ways through many senses.

Shores There is much wisdom in this collection of essays, which has not been published anywhere else. This author has done a significant amount of contemplation of various facets of life. She has a unique perspective and ability to articulate her thoughts in ways worthy of wall hangings, posters, and shouting from the mountaintops!
