By Don Kidwell Thought I'd check this out and see if it didn't mention Marshall Ney whom is a distant relation on my mother's side (Neu) and found this book to be a great pick! Section on Ney largely centered on his military career of which I found fascinating as to how he was able to survive as long as he did given both severe injuries and most especially the horrific defeat Napoleon's forces took in Russia long ago of which he was a central figure as demonstrated by Napoleon's own words, "I would have given three hundred millions from my treasury sooner than have lost such a man!" Includes many more biographies of other men including Nicholas Soult, Louis Nicholas Davoust, Andre Massena, Joachim Murat, and Edward Mortier to name just a few together with an active table of contents so you can easily read of their gallant acts as well in any order you choose. Very good informative book that I really enjoyed and leave you with one more passage regarding Marshall Ney and the disastrous march back from Russia over 2 decades ago, 'A few days after, a man marched into the house of General Dumas...with a long beard half burned by fire, and his face begrimmed with gunpowder. "Who are you? cried dumas. "I am the rear-guard of the grand army," replied the incouth stranger; "I am Marshall Ney!"
