About the Author Joy Harjo is an internationally known performer and writer of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation, the author of ten books of poetry and, most recently, a memoir, Crazy Brave. A critically acclaimed poet, her many honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Josephine Miles Poetry Award, the William Carlos Williams Award, and the American Indian Distinguished Achievement in the Arts Award. She lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Linda Hogan (Chickasaw), writer in residence for The Chickasaw Nation, is an internationally recognized public speaker and writer of poetry, fiction, and essays. Her two new books are Rounding the Human Corners (April 2008, Pulitzer nominee) and People of the Whale (August 2008). Her other books include novels Mean Spirit, a winner of the Oklahoma Book Award, the Mountains and Plains Book Award, and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize; Solar Storms, a finalist for the International Impact Award; and Power, also a finalist for the International Impact Award. In poetry, Hogan's The Book of Medicines was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her other poetry has received the Colorado Book Award, Minnesota State Arts Board Grant, an American Book Award, and a Lannan Fellowship. She has also received a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native Writers Circle of the Americas, the Wordcraft Circle, and the Mountains and Plains Booksellers Association. Her nonfiction includes Dwellings, A Spiritual History of the Land; and The Woman Who Watches Over the World: A Native Memoir.Rita Dove is a former U.S. Poet Laureate, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Heinz Award, and a musician. She lives in Charlottesville, where she is Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia.

This issue, Volume 18, is the 10th Anniversary Edition and what a line up--every page you turn to, there will be a superb poem or story and first rate book reviews. This issue features standout indigenous writers, Joy Harjo and Linda Hogan. What oracular power these two writers possess! I was lucky enough to hear Joy Harjo play with her band in San Diego and recite "She Had Some Horses." Linda Hogan has long been a favorite writer of mine with her novels and poetry. There are so many riches in this Anniversary issue , including TR Hummer's superb Poetry, Carolyn Forché and many other modern masters. Also of deep interest are the winners of the Poetry and Fiction Prize Winners and we can see were are new masters are emerging from in this country. Editor in Chief, Pam Uschuck , William Pitt Root and their colleagues, have put together an extraordinary Journal of the Arts. Also praiseworthy is the cover Art by Anita Endrezze. One of the top Journals of 2015 or any year. Highly recommended.
